View Full Version : Compatible Subframes
Can anyone tell me which clio subframes will support an F7 conversion?
I know they're all the same basic shape but i've heard that some (possible only the phase 3s?) have a different internal shape meaning that the sump will connect with it.
Does anyone know as i'm thinking of getting a secondhand one and painting it and want to be sure?
never heard that thought they were all the same except the willy one which was double skinned. but all the same dimension wise
That seems to be the general concenus from what i've read.
Reason for my query goes back a year or two...i had an F7R to go in my bug-eye 1.2. Chris H mentioned something about the subframe and possibly having to modify it (a.k.a sledgehammer) to clear the sump but i can't remember exactly.
He knows his stuff so there must have been something in it?
Maybe it is just the phase 3s...no-one seems to mess with them to know for sure so i'll just stick with a phase 1/2 RT item to be sure I think...
the only place they seem close is on the front crossmember where the rad sits. don,t think these have altered over time but thats the only place i would think

i put i phase 3 subframe on my valver and it was fine!
What was it off...1.2/1.4/1.8?
I'd try and get a phase3 sub frame as it'll be newer and in theory less rusty :D Even if it means cutting it back a bit, which I don't think is necessary. Normal sub frame only clears the sump by about 1cm on the drivers side. So should be fine.
so will any mk1 phase 1 or 2 subframe fit the williams with no problems?
yes but won,t be double skinned...
Buy a new willy one!
Only £300
The things I do for my shitter
what are the advantages the williams frame have over the valver ones?
I'm thinking of geting one thats less rusty for mine
Thanks
