View Full Version : 172 Hubs and Struts
Im heading for widetrack in the new year and was considering using 172 Brakes, and hubs while im in there. Question is, are the struts the same as Williams ones? if so i'd use them instead of machining down the strut insert on the hub.
Dave
When i mean the same struts as willy ones i know the bolt sizing is different and the hub mounting point wider, but are they physically the same i.e. same length and angle as a williams???
You'll need 172 driveshafts as the outer cv joints are larger.
Join up and look in the projects section, there is a guide posted there of how to do it and what you need
I thought people were using 172 hubs with williams shafts tho??
Im a Cheapskate, really need to join! lol

I've done what ur asking about.
The hubs fit to Willy struts, the strut holes need widening a touch to get the larger strut/hub bolts through.
You can use Willy shafts, just put williams bearings in the hubs (they have a slightly smaller spline).
Job done.

so you mean put the williams inner part of the hub (inside the bearing which the disc sits on) inside the 171+1's outer hub with a williams bearing?

Just use the 172 or scenic hub, press out the bearings and press in Williams bearings...simple as that!
Paul
Which centre do you use tho? as in the inside of the bearings? 17poo ones or the williams ones
Was thinking if laguna hubs were the same as theres loads of them out scrapyard

Yea, they're the same u can use those.
The outer size of the bearings are the same, williams/laguna/scenic. Its the size of the inner spline thats different, its a tad smaller on the williams.
As previoulsy stated, just have a garage press out the whole of the old bearings, and have new williams/valver ones pressed in. Its as simple as that honestly!!
