Hi,

Just a quick one.

I have a PiperX IK.

How do we clean our IK's?

Hopefully there is something in my house that I can use and I dont need to go to halfords and buy some crazy ass cleaning product at £20 that i'll never use again!!!

Answers appreciated.........

they all use there own specific particle retention oil, cleaning products are just mild detergents. kits can be had for around £10 so its not all bad

I took mine off, carb cleaner drenched it, then put it in soapy warm water, then stuck it on radiator to dry out, looked mint after.

still needs some retention oil in there to help filter the particles, so if its dry, its going to be letting small particles in.... for the sake of £10 is it worth chancing your engine?

i washed mine using hot water , cleaned and rinsed it, let it air dry completely.

you will then need to re-oil it, i use silkolene foam filter oil, comes in an aerosol so just spray the whole filter so its all covered, jobs done.

struggled to get the foam filter oil from my local halfords , so just bought it online.

each company uses a slightly different blend of oils, so to play it safe id just go with the brand your filter is, shop online as you can get some good deals.

thats the place where i bought mine from, they were a little slow in delivery , took 3 weeks, but eventually got it.

the drying is the key, you are supposed to let it dry naturally as heat can damage it etc.... so i do it first thing in the morning and leave it outside to dry off for a few hours, then i bring it in and put it on top of a radiator to help dry it slowly, its all done and ready in a few hours. dont put oil on it if its still wet and dont put too much oil on, it will get sucked into the engine and get covered in shite! lol
