View Full Version : Bolt hole problem !
just picked up some willy wheels and ive got home to realise one has a dodgy bolt hole
looks to me like a steel wheel bolt has been used, or someone at some point has had trouble getting a locking wheel bolt off
id presume this will be fine to drive on, as it will be held in fine by the other 3 and as they are OE wheels they will be bang on centre on the hub
but id like some opinions please

id go to a wheel place and see if they had a sleeve or a proper washer type thing
or ask on here :)
technically you should run all 4 obviously and it should fail a MOT with 3 bolts, but i have ran my car on 3 bolts, wont obviously go any less then 3 lol
infact 1 snapped off at oulton so i need to repair that lol
as for the wheel, you might need to see a alloy specialist or someone to see if it can be repaired!
well the bolt is gonna sit nearly properly, well, it will be as it should really just with a gap next to it, most of the taper on the hole is there
anything bad to do with wheels mate i wouldnt use it.
But im sure new alloy can be let in there and recut....
think ul find that they are actually steel sleeves. need that one pressing out n a new un in for def tho. if u can get hold of one, wheel refurbers might be ur best bet.....good luck tho.
asked the refurbers, emailed them my pics, will see what they say
think it will be fine to run on, after all most of us have ran on 3 wheel bolts i bet for a period of time lol, but will look for a replacement for sale

I drove the willy home from its old home with some girl tight bolts - the sounds were scary!
I think you'll be fine on 3 fella - I ran around like that for ages when I snapped one
As stated get a sleeved bolt and tighten it up murder tight at the end of the day it actually being in there is better than it not being there!
whats a sleeved bolt ?
do you mean one where the tapered bit is like a shim and can move slightly ?

That will be fine, just stick to straight roads.
Some of my bolts are sleeved - coned shape washer if you will - I thought the theory behind it was one per wheel to stop you wheels from ripping off...
It'd sit nicely in there and give extra grip to the wheel/hub
well all of my bolts are going to be the washer'd taper style once they go on, buying a full set with lockers from work
