When i took the willy manifold off and looked down the end where the 1 pipe goes into 4, there is lots of weld all round the edges and in the middle, now my mate says if i smooth all the weld off i will notice an improvement is this correct? i cant really see something like that making a difference but anyway he has took it to BAE to get it all smoothed and is going to polish the outside while its there

sounds cool! unless the welds were really proud and causing an obvious restriction i doubt you will notice anything, but it cant hurt if its free! haha

well this isnt the best pic i could draw but the red bits indicate how messy the welds are around where it splits to 4 pipes

you may feel some difference if they are that messy, however, if the muppet who did them in the first place did it that bad, i wouldnt put much faith in the ability of them to hold and seal once they are ground back! lol

it is a common fault for the manifolds to crack there and blow - hence the weld. I would try and find a better original than grind away weld that would weaken and brake.

well they are not that messy but i drew it freehand so was hard lol

are the welds not there from when the manifold was originally made?

i dont think so no. It would of been cast originally as one piece. Should be nice and neat as standard.

Grinding the welds will weaken them

no, as northy has said, its a common problem to crack there so people get them welded, obviously some better than others! lol

get it welded around the outside if it goes as that won,t affect the performance

It's tubular, not cast.

u dont know wtf u on about lol

the 4 pipes..of the tubular mani are welded at the bottom where they join

this is a weak spot as u can imagine how hot things get just there, the 4 pipes merging, heat collecting there etc.

simple case of grinding down the old weld til u get to the good metal of the pipe, then re welding . can be fettled with a grinder/dremel to get a nice clean finish

no reason why a rewelded one would be any less effective than a new un.
