View Full Version : Ktec / Supersprint SS manifold group buy

I have arranged 10% discount on SS manifolds if we buy 5 or more.
I am having 1, so if 4 other people want them we can save 10% on cost as well as postage.
Normal cost - £316.08 (plus £12 postage) TOTAL = £328
Discount cost - £284.47 (plus £2.50 postage, as split 5 ways assuming we dont live too far apart) = £286.50
Just to remind people, this exhaust has been tested and shown to give 7BHP on a 16v clio, and probably more on a Williams. Recommended by Nick Hill as the best SS manifold available, and used in competition rallying on the Williams rally cars.
It is a 4-2-1 manifold, and as such replaces the standard downpipe on the exhaust, a pipe that is prone to crack. They are easy to self fit, if a little time consuming. It will give a good power increase for the price and will improve low down torque. They also glow red when hot and sound great with a stainless steal exhaust. Alot of manifolds i have seen on Williams' fail at the 4-1 section of pipe and blow, causing power loss. I had mine welded and i am sure it is blowing a bit again. This manifold eliminates the need for constant welding / repairing. A 4-1 manifold in mild steel from Reno costs £599.
Anyone interested? I will be ordering a manifold at the begining of July regardless of whether we have 4 other purchasers.
can I pay on credit card? if so put me down as an almost deffo.
just so u all know guys....the supersprint s/s manifolds will need a braket making up to support the manifold (as the original one has to the engine block) or else all the weight of the exhaust will be hung onto the head studs.
I have seen a few which have been welded (on ebay) due to this missing support braket.
I can make some up but will need a car to model from as mine is differant.

Summy has one of these, i dont think he has a bracket made up.
grrrr cant u wait another month?? lol
fukkin 4 pots first
and yes stromba.where urs is welded..so are both of mine, and they both fukt again lol
KingStromba
06-06-2005, 11:40
I couldnt be arsed to keep welding the fukka. Its coming off, and im not paying £500 to reno for a new 4-1 which will go again.
You know you want one 2live.
lol......u know i do an all
just cant afford 4 pots and fanimold together
4 pots will be gettin a cheque sent off to mark soon, within the next week or so, so will have to wait tl prob nearer end july than beginning...cant u wait a month? lol
or does the group buy carry over for a couple months ??

Supersprint claim 11 bhp gain with this manifold and a decat. And thats on a 16v.
KingStromba
06-06-2005, 11:48
Oh, and supersprint stopped making these. Ktec asked them to make some more and payed for a batch. When these have gone, there will be no more.
Get in quick.
but theres no point having extra power if u cant fukkin slow it down for the next corner lol
which im strugglin to do a little bit at the mo hehe

Supersprint have stopped making them. Only ktecs large order that got more made (only 50). I would assume based on the fact that Ktec had to ask supersprint to make more, that not many are available anymore.
i'll deffo have one too Rob, but can they throw the bracket in as well, otherwise the kits not complete...

Probably more 16v ones, but as there are only a limited number of williams, and these are guaranteed for the life of the car, they will eventually saturate the market, and it wont be worth ordering another 50.
Ktec are selling these at £100 less than retail price to shift them. Thats not the economics of a company that has alot of orders. Slow sales and cheap prices means they are finding it hard to shift 50. Trust me, there wont be another 50.

They had to buy these 50 in small batches as it was, as they are selling so slowly. I am confident they wont make more of the Williams ones. This batch of 50 has been around for ages.

yeah, but on the other hand why wait? Rob's getting the discount now, so makes sense to get one. It's still a lot cheaper than anywhere else and it will mean my cars 'almost' as modded as Northy's

Nearly £150 saving on supersprint recomended retail price with my discount.
If we got more than 5, maybe we could get 15% off.
Slithers not interested???
Rob,
Can you find out if k-tec will fabricate a bracket to make this kit complete. I work as a engineer so could make a bracket, but like Northy would need a car to base it on and i can't be bothered to mess about. I'd prob take one if the kit was complete, rather then messing about.
KingStromba
06-06-2005, 12:49
Summeh doesnt have a bracket (I dont think). Ktec said that the car they have fitted this too hasnt had a bracket fitted to it. I will ask Nick if a bracket is needed. There are a number of factors why it may not.
If you could speak to Nick then Rob and let us know.
I'd of thought a bracket would be needed as stainless is hard, so any movement will result in stress fractures, where as mild steel moves a bit before breaking.
well like i said to summeh - i wouldnt be happy to run the engine hard or on the limiter with no bracket on.
when i fitted mine was one year ago to the month. And had problems with the cat not lining up with the s/s manifold. Ktec sorted that and then declared all the prowler and remaining supersprint ones were 16v only.
Ktec then ordered some more from supersprint sometime around november 2004 and changed the website to williams compatable....so they havent had them all that long Rob.
Im not saying dont buy one...just that renault had a bracket on the cast iron manifold which isnt on a s/s steel one. Personally to avoid problems - Id design and fit one.
Heres a picture of mine 1year ago.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y107/northy_com/DSCN0893.jpg
have you got all the plastic off yours yet?
heehee yes...it had all gone by the time i got home mate - was well impressed.
Wish it still looked like that picture mate.
KingStromba
06-06-2005, 13:23
Just spoken to Nick, he said basically, hed just put it on the car as it is. He says he thinks the renault competition exhasut has no bracket there either.
So really i guess its up to the buyer.
KingStromba
06-06-2005, 13:32
Scott, you could get a bracket made up easy enough.
How much for a Valver one????.....Same price???
KingStromba
06-06-2005, 13:41
Yes, and youd need a valver decat too to fit it to a Williams.
I know i could but its the messing about that I can't be bothered with. Ideally i'd like to buy a kit which is complete. I'll look at the bracket in question after work and see whats involved.
I might be interested, just a bit worried about how much it will affect my insurence?????
KingStromba
06-06-2005, 14:02
I wont declare it. If i crash ill rip it off. Wont add too much. It will be black after a while and will look standard.
As far as i m concerned its an oe replacement part from a renault specialist. Going to write to Ktec and ask if they have any manifolds for a williams. They will right back saying yes this one. There you go.
Lets face ot its no different to putting a valver box in your car or a hill power uprated dog bone mount, and like fook would i declare either of those.

Just before the cat.
Swervin_Mervin
06-06-2005, 17:48
Funny though that the site selling it doesn't show the 2-1 section. I would assume it's included though.
if u look at the pic closely tho mate.the end bit looks to be the pipe to the cat, just not complete.
the downpipe is a 2-1 and finishes at the flange, for some reason an extra bit has been added to the pic after the flange.prob to show line of rest of zorst
KingStromba
06-06-2005, 18:06
So really its the down pipe that is 2 sections?
well.yes and no
if u look at the first flange on the pic....it looks like it joins the 2 pipes together just before the flange, and the bit after the flange is the de-cat just not complete
I see you've been relaying our conversation from last night to this thread Stromba :D
I do have a supersprint manifold and didn't bother making up a bracket as I spoke to Dave from Ktec and he said that it wasn't required. Just to be sure I fitted an uprated dogbone mount from Nick Hill at the same time to reduce strain on the manifold.
Northy if you want to make up some brackets then i'd be up for one.
Mines a 16v fitting version as when I ordered they didn't have any Williams manifolds in stock, no difference except that if you go for the valver version you will also need a valver cat/decat because of the flange mounting angle on the downpipe to cat join.
Stromba, gains are good mate, im loving mine :D you won't regret it. Pulls much better high up, and i've still to replace my centre section as its still standard.

The extra bit is the spring loaded joint.
king put me down for a deffo on this mate. :)
the manifold actually looks like a std willy 1, but the downpipe looks similar to a valver........hhhmmmmmmm

You thinking what im thinking?
how many do we have confirmed then? i want one now! how quick can we get them ordered
just to add the rally clios did use a devil grp N system inc manifold :)
is there no spring loaded flex point on this manifold if it replaces the downpipe aswell ?
bet it breaks all the time if so..

Thats what i said.
Maybe it was the cup cars then. Cant remember what Nick said exactly.
oh and i work for Motor World, and we deal with Supersprint, Stromba is correct that its HIGHLY unlikely you will be able to get another one of these ever, once they are all sold

Looks pretty easy to make in all reality. If its that good why not just buy one proper one and then we can copy it. :D
KingStromba
06-06-2005, 21:22
Powerflow said they could copy one. Maybe we should buy one, get 5 copies, then split the total cost?
Original -£316
Copies - £150
Total cost for 5 - £916
Total cost each - £183 each
now that sounds like a plan.... plus i'm sure we can more people at that price?
scotte666
06-06-2005, 22:33
id defo be up for 1 at that price
good idea, altho im not sure how good a copy will be??? Not gonna be exact is it ? exact lengths, bends etc
manifolds need to be spot on with lengths etc
Supersprint are not your normal Peco type exhaust place, everything they do is made PROPERLY, everything is tested, im not sure if a copy could be as good, though for the price hmmmm!
also where do those springs go in the pic ?....on the decat ?
At the end of the downpipe there is another small ball joint type connector thats in that bag, with sealing ring, the springs with long bolts hold this on.
So imagine:
Manifold -> downpipe -> spring loaded joint -> cat
KingStromba
07-06-2005, 00:05
Id expect an exact copy, or no money :D
KingStromba
07-06-2005, 00:05
I would be taking my measuring tools. :D
you'll want to make sure that every bend does not collapse under the tight radiuses that manifold run, that the flanges are 3/8's thick, that the collectors are of GOOD design and manufacture (look inside them for weld splatter).
I cant see powerflow doing a good job personally, especially without a mandrel bender.
KingStromba
07-06-2005, 00:18
Well they wont be getting the contract then :D No amateur need apply.
That means you Kwik fit. :D
cantact BTB exhausts, they will be able to do it, and probably make a better one if you went to them straight about a manifold.
However, they arent cheap and the 280 odd quid is a pretty damn good price for a manifold.
I'd be willing to pay upto a grand for a really really good manifold.
your mental mate, £1k for a manifold, if anyone can improve on a supersprint, then id bet the gain would be very minimal
the supersprint desing is a nice, low cost road manifold. However, it wouldnt be very hard to improve on the design and manifacture at all.
you could spend silly amounts of money getting an exhaust system pulse tuned.
Can they arrange overseas shipping (surface would be fine, as I am in no hurry), if I join in the group buy? I would probably take a full-system (manifold, de-cat and backbox), if they have one that is not too noisy.
KS, would appreciate if you can check on my behalf? Thanks.

And centre section ?
Yeah, forgot the old "lizard" box (cause it looks like one). That as well, please. Basically, the whole kit kaboodle from manifold to backbox (bolts. brackets and what not), I will get the exhaust tip here, if the backbox don't come with it. The shipping is gonna cost me a bomb anyway, so more parts shouldl better amortize the shipping cost.

how do u know what they have n havent got??
there doesnt seem to be a problem with the quality of their exhausts.and the garauntee would cover any fuk ups...iv asked myself at top gear in burnley a couple years ago, at the time they said they wouldnt be able to get the bends tight enough, but they have acquired more equipment since, and im sure some will have more equipment than others

But if they did improve on it, it would be a huge cost for a very few BHP.
true Rob... but I think Jonny is saying we should get the Supersprint ones... I'm not really interested in a copy, i'd rather have the real deal that's tried and tested...

Its quite easy to spot a mandel machine, its pretty damn big!
Just ask them to demonstrate a tight bend on a pipe, any crinkles and your valver one will be better.
Just trying to help.
King, you sure can end up with a high £/bhp ratio, but at the end of the day, its low outputs your talking about at the moment so its not an issue. However, when your talking 9000rpm and 280bhp, and you loose 20bhp because of a manifold, its alot easier than any other engine work.
The money for the superprint is pretty damn good, i wouldnt be too bothered about the extra £100 quid or so.

Maybe we should plan a little excusion in september so we can all try our new manifolds
if we wait til september they will need to know how many we want exactly, but as there will prolly be loadsa people by then able to afford them then realistically I think they should not only discount it further, but also throw in the brackets needed to fit the thing... kinda like a sweetner to the deal... who's the group buy with btw, Ktec or you speaking to Supersprint directly?
KingStromba
08-06-2005, 11:25
Im dealing with Dave at Ktec. I will ask about the brackets, but for myself to be able to negotiate the best deal i have to know what cards i hold, ie how many we are going to buy.
I think if we got 10, the discount would increase more, but we would have to know ssonish, as they may have to get another shipment at that sort of amount. There is a guy on cliosport at the moment buying one for his williams but (brun pmed him) but he doesnt think our group buy will happen so hes not interested and hes paying the full 350 quid.

So do I need a bracket if I was wanting a Manifold, Northy says yes, Nill Hill says no?
Whats the definitive answer fellas, will it fit my magnex with a 16v/Williams decat, and will it fit my Willy cat come Chip MOT time?
I wanted to fit a bracket as there was one there as standard but not on the stainless steel one. Plus you all know what im like with my car.
Its entirley upto you guys...but all the weight and stresses of the exhaust will be onto your studs if you dont.....and the manifold will crack at its weakest point (thats the manifold flange or the cat to downpipe section).

Who is still interested in this?
I might be able to get a good price direct from the importers.
Looking for 5 people and to avoid timewasters i will need to have cash upfront before i order, if you are not able to do this or don't trust me then don't bother replying.
Mat.
What sort of prices you looking at Mat?
Am interested if the price is right.
after being on track day i have a sudden greater intrest.....like BigHP tho ill only buy if price is right....

Pardon me for asking maybe a stupid question but are the williams and 16v manifolds not the same? Flaming monkey just had a 16v manifold fitted to his williams, or is there adjustments that need to be made?

williams is 4-1 manifold designed for more torque to the top end.
Valver is 4-2-1 and is designed to give more torque low down

is this group buy still on the cards, im aiming to break the 160 bhp mark on my valver (currently 155) and i thought this would be the best way of doing it.
Have they got proof that an increase of 7bhp ie rolling road printouts, if so im so tempted.
erm nope nope and nope!
nope- group buy idea was ages ago!
nope- they wont give you 7bhp.
nope- no printouts of rr results. they give a good improvment imo, but tbh you cant expect 7bhp - definatly better response and better breathing at the top of the rev range.

there notthe best of manifolds in my opinon. i would stick to a standard willy one.
brittle annoying and prone to seizures geting on and off.
lmao, this is an old thread. Got my SS years ago :D
