View Full Version : Which gearbox mount?
Hi! Gonna have to stick my head under the bonnet of a 16v soon and need some help.
Apparently a gerbox mount has gone and needs to be replaced. Which one is most likely to go, is it always the same one, and can I assume I need a R19 replacement?
What I want to do is get hold of a spare to replace straight away as time is short before the car has to go on a long journey.
How is driving with one mount missing?
Need all the mounts, if the gearstick moves back and forwards when you lift off/floor it then it will be dog bone, of not then it will be the other one....most of the time anyways
Ok. You say dont drive it if mount is missing? Dog bone is easy fix?
1 of mine went to nite, mines the 1 under the battery, looks like the bolt from the mount has snapped so i'm trying to find out the best thing to do to sort it if any 1 knos??
Is it this one under battery?

yes thats the metal bit. theres a rubber mounting also
Does it look like a pad of rubber and does it go where them two bolts are above the broken mount?
I have to move the car 30 miles. If one mount has gone is it okay if I drive carefully?

That bolt that has sheered off goes through the middle of the rubber bit basically.
And I drove my car a few miles after the same mount snapped and it was pretty dodgy as the engine was pivotting on the top mount but I suppose if you take it really really easy it isn't going to be any different from towing or just letting it stand still?

If the gearbox mount is snapped as in the photo you put up I wouldn't drive it at all if it was my car.
Okay, think its the dogbone mount now...driveable? Gear stick is rocking back and forth under acceleration/braking.
ifs its the dogbone i would think so.
that pic you posted, is that YOUR mount ?
if it is then thats obviously buggered and thats why everything is moving around, the dogbone is easy to check, get under your car with a torch and look at it, dont even need to jack it up really
Personally i wouldn't drive my car if ANY of the mounts went, for the bit of hassle you could potentially cause alot of damage
No that pic is not my car. I have a dogbone and a front left mount arriving to day and will be changing the broken one before I drive it.
