Same as any other engine really.
Suitable breathing mods for the engine.
Cams
Headwork
Remap
e.t.c
but cheaper to buy one done really.
There is no fun in just buying one tho ! Any one know of any sites with Formula renault info ?
Looked into it and tbh the gains are shit, hence i deceided to buy a hybrid and mod from there
I believe there is a bigger TB you can put on, you can clean up the welds on the inside of the manifold where it mates to the head, obvously post and polish the head.
Lunner , would you be able to find out what t/b it would be ? Pretty please :D
Its about on forums somwhere, either here or Retro renualt is a good source of info.....tbh with you mate it was well over a year ago and really can't remember
would this be the engine thats in the RSi? if so i'd be interested in knowing what can be done...

RSI engine is F3P.. ..F3R is 2.0 8V engine from Laguna etc
You can drop a f7r BE on as easily as you can williams to valver, but gains are only about 20bhp iirc
Other option is the volvo 440 1.7T engine is same and will pretty easily swap over......not sure about loom tho
You can't put a 16v BE on a F3x head as the waterways are different.
Easiest way to build a RS (like) F3R to go in a Clio is get an RSI engine and bolt the 8V lagana/megane F3R BE on. That way you'll have a clio plug and play loom and 2ltr 8v without any fannying about (i.e laguna coilpacks etc).
As standard, power will be much the same as an RSI but torque will be way more. Parkers figure for the torque is wrong...its way more, near enough as much as a willy IIRC.
As for tuning, listen to Lunner - it'll cost too much and maxed out will only be the equivalent of a mildly tuned williams engine. Tuned valver performance is achievable without breaking the bank though - i.e. headwork/catcam/lightened flywheel (8v one weighs a ton). Slapping the 440t bits on is doable but too much of an unknown (i.e. compression/reliabilty/getting the ecus to work) so safer just sticking a complete turbo engine in or avoiding it as the 440 engine is shit.
They are good engines and can made quick to a point but stick with the 2ltr 16v if you want serious potential (150+ bhp).
Who said about adding a 16v BE????
Had a mate who was running the volvo turbo lump in his car, was quick, but off the line not much over the RSi....few people prolly remember him from Cliosport or RTOC....Malice

Ahh f&%k it , just going to but a f7r and put t/b's on the slag !
