can people in the know help me to sort out an oild cooler and some hoses etc.

Should i use it instead of the water based one or stack the takeoffs ontop of eachother.. if you get what i mean.

My oil is always at 120degrees and i dont like it.

I know BBperformance do a kit for £126 but you must be able to get things cheaper than that and some sexy braided hoses for example.

Do you mount the new rad infront of the current one with long metal "screws"?

I'm in the process of doing this.

Got my oil cooler 2nd hand, but new, take off plate with stat is £28+VAT from rally design, and i'm going to a local companny today to get prices of braided hoses, looking at rally design my cooler would have cost around £40+VAT

rally design is best bet, will cost about £40 for rad, 15 for sandwich plate, and whatever it costs you to get a couple of pipes knocked up (about £40 to get them swaged properly).

it does however require a thinner centre bolt, this is too long which is from my williams 2 engine

Which sandwich plate do i need. Surly there is one where the center bolt will fit, what do you reckon needs doing to it to make it fit?

Have you got a new cooler on yours now?

I need to know what size rad to get too.

Im running 120degrees atm and will be using high comp pistons with a limiter of about 12k in the future....

should i just get the biggest, with a termostat set at 100degrees or something.

Got the hoses swaged up for about £40, as above take off plate with built in stat is £28+ VAT, but i'm thinking is a stat really necessary???

stops the oil over cooling so it gets up to temp quicker. over cooled oil is as bad as over heated oil really

AndyFielder

where you get the hoses made?

do you specify what temp you want the thermostat set at when ordering or i it all standard... i think having one is very important as i will be commuting and cant wait for it to heat up when its getting driven normally etc

Local place to me, BSR aerotech

Lunner

AndyFielder

Lunner
20-09-2007, 14:02
You only need a little one, the one i've got is a 13 row and about 300mm long, too big for the job, but its what i got cheap

AndyFielder
20-09-2007, 14:14
ok looks good to me.

5/8" fittings or 1/2" ..... 1/2" im thinking for higher volume

AndyFielder
20-09-2007, 14:17
tho it says 5/8" for larger engines.

Lunner
20-09-2007, 16:02
Thats becasue 5/8" is a larger size than 1/2"....mine are 1/2"

VIPERONE
20-09-2007, 18:52
think automotive are the best place to obtain oil coolers.. you need the m20 size.

also i'd get a thermostatic cooler.

Lunner

nah i like new parts and want the larger diameter inlets and a bigger rad etc.

Lunner
20-09-2007, 21:01
tbh its only a N/A clio, you don't need the larger inlets, its not gonna get that hot, as you can tell, you only get 120 deg temps without it its an aid rather than a necessity, plus thats a big rad hes selling lol

Why dont' you just buy the BBPT kit, saves all the ****ing about

AndyFielder
20-09-2007, 21:35
im into creating bespoke parts for what will become a fooking fast engine.

I also like shinie bits.

im running high compression at very high RPM so i think we are going to get alot hotter.

anything past 190bhp and I find an oil cooler is a necessity....

above the one in the bb tuning kit.

AndyFielder
20-09-2007, 22:29
the one i have chosen is alot bigger.. can anyone see a problem with this.. the worst case i see is the thermostatic valve breaking if its opening and closing all the time.

MAXIBOY
20-09-2007, 23:20
no its better because you have more oil. just depends where your fitting it.

hello from greece!

i have a mocal oil cooler system and i'm wondering where to put it.

Lunner
22-09-2007, 18:32
Take the front bumper off and bolt it onto the bottem of the front cross member infront of the radiator.

I'd have mine on teh car by now if Rally design had sent the right spindle for the sandwich plate  3/4 UNF male thread, and god knows what femal thread, but it wasn't 3/4 UNF

thanasis16v
22-09-2007, 18:41

wouldnt the standard renault spindle fit it

MAXIBOY
26-09-2007, 10:41
no as they tend to be shorter on the after market oil cooler take off plates.

think i might have a spare though.

matty w
26-09-2007, 11:24
i've just ordered a sandwich plate off rallydesign and they was going to send me the 3/4 one,its m20 by 1.5mm that is the right one

Lunner
26-09-2007, 20:23
Yeah spoke to a bloke today about it, they sent me a 3/4 UNF one and it needs to be 20mm
