View Full Version : FAO Cup Boys - Solid Dogbone?
I need one, the tiny bit of movement in my engine is causing my downpipe to catch the steering rack, so i need to stop front to back play completely!
any info on if i can get hold of one? or get one made up maybe from a pic of one of you guys?
did the cups even run one? i dunno tbh am just hopin yes as for some reason i got it into my head they do!
The dogbone is not "solid" as in all metal, but the rubber insert is complete, as in no gaps, and it is extremely "solid".
I'm not sure if mine is just an aftermarket jobby or how they originally ran, but looking at the cup manual, they should be no different to standard.
i'll just go and check my manual now to make sure though.
no good then, i need a totally solid one with maybe tiny rubber insert to totally stop the engine moving, either that or its have the downpipe totally remade!

youve got too much money!!!!!!
Just been checking the cup manual and the cup car.
See pic of my dogbone attached below.
From the cup manual, cup cars ran standard engine mounts. Standard dogbone mounts, there is no mention of uprated or different parts. The only difference is the use of a longer bolt on the top gearbox mounting, quite what this achieves i'm not sure.
Do you have the R19 mount? Mine is quite different from others, has kind of a metal cage around the rubber to further reduce movement.
I would say with a dogbone mount similar to mine below, and with the R19 mount you should be ok.
Thing is you need to have some "give" otherwise those vibrations will be transmitted to the rest of the car and I don't somehow think that will be a good thing
What rack are you using? Plenty of room with a cup rack
part number on that dogbone is 77 00 805 120, which i think is standard, but someone with dialogys can check.
i have a tiger sealed up dogbone, which feels damn solid as is, and am already runnin a R19 mount, not sure how much stiffer the one u have wud be compared to tigersealed std item? have you ever compared them?
reason am thinking solid mounts is i believe some of the peugeot boys run them, they are available for 106's n 205's iirc?
vibrations i dont really mind, wobble when cornering i do, its not good and gives me no confidence to corner quickly, i'd sooner take a back massage!
failing all this i'll just have to look into gettin shot of the power steering, but i dont want a 1.2 rack, cup or nothing, no way am having 4 million turns lock to lock! :P
I have a solid one...
there is no rubber in the middle its completly coverd
bought it in here in holland at veban rijswijk for about 100 euro's
p.s. it makes everything shake though but its a good investment

you can actually feel your engine moving while cornering? When cornering you should have your foot steady on the throttle, so you shouldnt feel anything like that really? Unless you mounts are completely ****ed.
coops undo the downpipe to manifold nuts a little bit it should cure the play. its prob a little bit too tight
coops, take it to an exhaust place, get them to put a torch on the down pipe and bend it a little bit away from the rack, should cure the problem..
Personally I would get a flexi pipe section made up and mated to the existing setup.
Matthew
has your exhaust got any flexi joints in it??
I had the same problem, cos the original 16v manifold has a movement joint, but cos you'ves got a turbo, theres no way of it to flex.....
My friend has "solid" grpN mounts on his 205 mi16, the rides ok, but the engine still moves slightly, i think you need a bit of play otherwise metal parts are going to start breaking like, gearbox mount bolts etc when you do a hard launch

i use to run a solid mount on my VTR, was snapping std ones all time, was much better but you could feel some of the vibrations thought the vehicle, which didnt worry me tbh
So where can you get a solid mount?
currently am lookin for the easiest fix to bring the downpipe away from the rack to confirm it is that thats causing the vibration. my engine mounts are all new including the filled dogbone (tigerseal) and the R19 4th mount, so its nto the mounts causing the vibration. I heard from other people that downpipe catching rack (on the p/s fluid res bit of the rack) can cause vibration and only on left turn, and after i investigated my car i saw that the d/pipe was pretty much sat on the rack. so i figure, cheap way to move it now to confirm the issue then get it done right!
i was always going to get a flexi section made up but that will be in the cat back part of the zorst, only other place is downpipe itself and thats not so easy, but if its got to come off again then so be it! i cant get them to heat n bend it on the car as its heat wrapped?
Rich mate, its turbo setup and everything needs to be done up as is as its all flat gasket faces, so any loosening will result in gas leakage at the joints, the issue is as its a solid joint to turbo from the downpipe and the new turbo is slightly larger i have lost clearance to the rack and subframe that was there with the old turbo
dhay14 in holland can get hold of solid dogbone mount for around 100 euros, I am also currently looking into other options, but i have a clutch to worry about also, so no quick progress from me for now!
