bloody hell.

Get an independant report done or something then take them to small claims court for damages. Unless of course they decide to reimburse you

Seriously, that should not happen! That's is pretty worrying.

Is this a common failure point for kent? (i'd be worried about ANY failure of that part).

Matthew

yes common on kent and also piper.

Locktight ? ;)

Just messing. I had some piper verniers (old style) for my k-series engine (metro gti) along with my vvc cams (2 exhaust cams :D), and would have been very suprised if that happened. I see it more likely that the bolts holding the position would loosen up than the main bolts coming free.

As asked, what's the difference with the Catcams verniers? Do they have some sort of locking tab/mechanism?

Actually looking at that kent pic, it does look like those bolts are the timing adjusters that came loose :(

Matthew
p.s. BRING BACK THE EDIT BUTTON please :)

it looks like you have the mild steel allen bolts. the upgrade was to high tensile i think.

that is arse and an a pain.

i think Kent will argue that the cams are designed for 150bhp rather than 250..lol

go cat cams!

on the plus side your turbo conversion has been flawless, its more or less a self build jobby which is quality in itself...

just a minor setback. hopefully not many valves are bent

I'm going to get the head off tonight and check the damage...

Think I'm just going to refit the standard pullies...

what cams are you running the engine?

Scougar

Make sure you fully document any damage, and send it to Kent cams. That is a component failure.

not according to kent cams and we can,t afford to take them to court.

Ive seen a couple fail. I did have one in my workshop somewhere.

I was working on a Kseries at the weekend which had piper pulleys, but they were a totally different design....looked superior to their previous efforts.

id like pictures of them failed on an engine not a picture of one youve just smashed with a hammer as it would'nt come off the engine   on a serious note tho ive had my pipers in for 25k and not had one problem with them and me car gets alot of stick :D ( runs to touch wood )

Wasn't Matt Parkers by chance?

I think my pipers were the older 4 arm type, not the newer 3 arm that piper now make (since I last looked).

Fitment failure? If there wasn't a problem why would they change the design to high tensile bolts?

I've had the head off, its marked the top of the pistons but not damaged them....

so I'll get the head sorted and get it back on the road.....

Scougar

What damage to the head is there?

8 exhuast valves + 2 inlet valves....

Scougar
04-09-2007, 10:06
Ouch... that's gonna be a little expensive :(

You gonna stick with verniers or try stock pulleys? (Obviously being harder to adjust timing though :()

Matthew

not sure yet... cos I have never adjusted them anyway...
