Was wondering who prefers what fuel??

I prefer shell optimax (v power) as it feels as good as bp ultimate (98ron) but is 6p per litre cheper in around Preston and would like to use tesco more but the nearest petrol station is miles away

optimax = avg 98p/L
bp ultimate (98ron) = avg 104p/L
tesco = 96p/L

i know bp ultimate do 103 ron near to race circuits but am on about the average stuff as there is no circuits near me

i run on tesco 99, with your 5p off vouchers it makes it nice and cheap! every 4 fills i will run a full tank of optimax for its cleaning properties etc.. as i doubt the tesco stuff has anything remotely similar! lol mines chipped though and mapped to run on super so it loves it.

having said the above, i wouldnt trust anything other than optimax in my Evo. peace of mind is worth more than the £100+ extra you spend over tesco and cheaper fuels imo

I put some vpower in my hybrid the other week as i was feeling flush and saw a shell station. Noticed a bit of difference over standard grade.

Vpower for me, the cars mapped for it

As coops says, most people on here have cars that are mapped or chipped for the higher octane fuel, and you can tell when the car is on normal 91 ron etc... runs sluggish, slow to pick up and mpg drops...

On a standard car you have to use the fuel over a set period of time to notice the difference, you cant simply put super 99 ron fuel in and expect 25bhp!!! be realistic. over the course of a month or so it will help to clean the engine and keep things working as they should and you will notice a difference should you go back to the lesser 91 ron. Its a personal choice, but to say its 'baloney' is a tad naive. id personally say its being a 'cheap skate' not buying the better stuff..... 8) hehe

I always use the shell v-power, the car seems to run well with it. And as above its only a couple of quid more to fill up with the better stuff.

naive? pish, ur speaking to a guy whos been a student n chatted to every single person working for shell. unless uve a brand new car or a ferrari, an old clio ull feel no difference (std we're talking), even over a set period of time. and i thought 95ron was std, not 91...
I remember on rtoc there was a huge discussion concerning this, a tanker driver popped in a two cents n claimed that every octane rating will give, over time, approx 1bhp for an old car. enjoy ur 2hp boys....haha, if ur cars mapped for it, thats fine. but std cars? hell i worked at a petty station n put opti in for a yr, and noticed ZERO difference. if it makes u feel better..then fine...muuuwahahaha suckers!

if u want additives...just buy the fuel flush stuff...redex or what have you. And 'i put in super and mine runs fine....' well of course it will, you're not comparing. Go back to normal....you wont see any difference.

the cleaners work well, i have run mine on optimax since i got it and the emissions have dropped since its last mot and i have not changed anything bar oil and spark plugs, so its running cleaner thats for sure, but it was remapped using optimax

Same as others in that my cars mapped for 99 ron fuel (tesco) and i noticed a difference in only the 1 tank of "normal" 95 fuel that i've put in since, sluggish, rough idle etc. Never really noticed a difference before it was mapped though.

like i said i cant talk on behalf of remapped cars...is a remap really worth it? im considering it myself....got one of gunners chips i shud really stick that on first...

Redex etc are shit. I used it once and it fvcked the injectors for ages. Had a slight misfire thereafter until I got a new set of injectors.

Local specialist told me never to use it as it was designed for carbed cars and they never really changed the formula, hence it knocks big chunks of crap out rather than gradually cleaning. This crap then nicely blocks the injectors.

I run V-Power for the very reason that its proven the cleaners in it make a huuuge difference to the levels of deposits over time.

That and Tesco 99 I can't get and Ultimate you need a mortgage for a tank full. :lol: How BP garages can justify charging 5-7p a litre more than Shell do for V-Power I don't know.
