Well it all started with a jovial chat regarding air filters and induction kits, me suggesting that i wanted to go back to the standard airbox and filter and Gunner saying he wanted the Scuttle panel conversion.....

... Last week Gunner helped me change my lambda sensor, and what a bitch of a job it was 2! anyway, as a thankyou i dug out one of my old air filters in mint condition as i thought it would be good for his pending turbo conversion, so i duly popped round to drop it off....

When i arrive he says hes dug out his old Hill power heat shielded induction kit and wondered if i wanted to do a swap for my larger Ramair induction that was fitted to my car at the time.. an offer i couldnt refuse! haha so we stripped down the hill power and got it ready to put onto mine.. a few nibbles on the foam filter but other than that its great! the problems came when we took mine off. The rubber mounting lip had perished and was hanging on by a thread so there was no way we could fit it to Gunners or back on mine! gutted... so out came the jackets, drills and grinders and we set to work!

We had been talking about it for a while now but due to the situation the perished filter threw us into it was a case of 'necessity is the mother of invention' and that couldnt have been more apt!

We had all the various parts required but had to come up with a plan of action in order to get things done. As the picture above shows, we basically modified the scuttle panel face to allow the filter to sit deep into the recess and to makesure the inlet tubing didnt foul the battery. Once this was done, some silicone tubing was cut and placed over the opening to provide a nice seal and protect from vibrations (see yellow seal in pic, we will be making a sealing patch to 'dressup' and seal the scuttle panel inlet hole just in case you were wondering)

one that was done we mocked up the actual inlet with all the silicone connectors, and fettled the angles, positions etc.... until it was perfect, or as good as we were gona get!

This is the end results of an afternoons fettling brought about by the failure and demise of my induction kit! a grand cost of......around £20 or so! haha but shhhhhhhhhhh....

Could a length of silicon hose not be used instead of the stainless tubing?

Surely that would be a better option?????

As we said, we basically knocked this one up from literally spare parts that were in Gunners garage, they werent designed or purpose bought for this purpose we simply made the best of what we had and based on that, its a fooooking legend result! lol 8)

Silicon tubing is reinforced. Pretty sure the tubing is only for cosmetic purposes.

Do i chop my williams bulkhead up to fit one or stick with standard airbox with element.

Bent up or just straight tubing?

AndyFielder

straight, polished stainless tubing, for use with 63mm samco bends

i would suggest some pretty bends for ultimate bling, you would nteed 2* 45 degree ones.

Looks good, has it been worth while apart from the noise?

Is water a problem for it? Looks a little vulnerable under the windscreen.

I've got two of those batteries. Not in the same car though. My excuse is that they help balance the weight of the front end of the car more evenly.

The battery is standard or so i thought! lol im on the look out for one of those small racing batteries that i used to run in my evo, think they are uprated micra batteries!

anyone know where to get one? what battery are you running maxi?

noticable difference in performance its so much more revvy and free through the rev range, definately a great improvement! sadly i cant fit one on mine (the pics are of gunners car i now have the old hillpower) as my alarm system is wired into the scuttle panel so would have to move it... and i cant be bothered! haha

anyone got a fog light scoop? going to fit one this week if i can get one
