View Full Version : Piston Rings
the piston rings supplied with my new pistons came with no instructions as to which way up they go!
the o/e piston rings i took off have to go a specific way up as they are tapered/machined different on each side, these wossener ones dont appear to be any different whichever way up they go
am i right in assuming i can slap them either way up?
cheers
Coops
aye afaik unless there is instruction to do so then they go any way up
cheers matey, my next door neighbour thinks the same n all and he's a turbo head!
good enough for me! time to build!
but you must fit the pistons the right way as they have an offset pin.

elaborate please? there is writing stamped on the crowns, will that be the right way up as you look at the engine from the front or the wrong way up?
Piston rings usually have an 'up' marker or 'top' marker located next to the ring gap. Sometimes is a very lightly lazer engraved letter etc.
is there not a little arrow
or a dot. if not, it depends on the profile of the edge, They could just be plain straight cut....
i'll figure it out, will have a proper nosey when i got to fit them, got to assemble them to conrods and fit bearing shells and rings etc yet so no worries! :P
