View Full Version : How quick are Alfa 147s?
And what engine flavours do they come in? Had one tailing me and it seemed not to have the throttle response (ie: grunt) keeping up in traffic. And only managed to pull up when the road opened up (and I did not want to break the speed limit by much). May be it's just an inexperienced driver. Would have thought a closer match with all the engine revs he was doing.
if it was the GTA, in a straight line you would get raped
Couldn't really tell. The bodykit could have been bought after market. I am guessing it could be a 2L or even a 1.6L as I was keeping mostly below 4.5k rpm. For his sake, I really hope it was not the GTA (is that 3 litre?).
yea 3.2 V6
sounds like a 2.0L 16v or the 1.6 16v as you say
The GTA has something like 250bhp and the 2.0-litre twin spark only has 150bhp, so there's quite a difference. I guess it would be the twin spark, and he only came passed you because you started backing off?
Mind you, it was a cool and damp evening - the perfect conditions for the F7R and I was enjoying the gruntier 3k to 4k band.
Don't you hate it when you just slayed something which may or may not have been a body-kitted lower model with a bad snorting exhaust (esp. Mit Lancers with EVO bodykit) :D
and he only came passed you because you started backing off?
Yeah, backed off as I was a teensy-weensy bit beyond the limit. He didn't pass me, traffic on the sides boxed him in. But he was inches off my rear.
Wouldn't the 3.2L be a bit a of a fatty sitting at the front of a wheel-barrow? And the electronic TC effectively reducing the 250 bhp by half whenever you really want to use it. Never been a big fan of active gizmos on a car.
apparently the GTA does like to understeer a bit but i for one wouldnt mind that too much, that engine is just lush and they look very very nice indeed, especially in the Pearlesent White they did them in
hmmm hmmmmmmmmmmm
I'm pretty sure the GTA is still a quick beast even carrying a bit of weight. Who knows!

well that shows we have some taste.
im pretty sure there was a video floating about on youtube of a supercharged one :P
It was the red one that was up my tail. I guess it is also in the genetic make-up of a true Alfa driver to race with anything on the road regardless of how small an engine he may be driving. I, myself, was also a bit of an Alfa fan in the 'Sud & Sprint days. The carbed 1.7L was one magnificent and leaky engine, and the rev limit must have been painted in as an afterthought. :)
MMmmmmmm, Mmmm...

Seen (and more importantly, heard) this race in the flesh. Awesome!
Balls to you! Zollo! I have been on the wagon for so many years. Now, I have to go back to AA again. Alfa Anonymous :D I had more posters of these cars than naked women, man!
Any more pics?? :)
awesome little motors in their day.

It races in the German Youngtimer race series. Pictures of it, and loads of other amazingly cool old-school racers, here...

I also have a couple of pics of two A110s that race in the same series
I really loved these cars! Even today, when I drive past a rare & rusty sud, I have to fight the temptation to stop the car and offer a price for it. Which is probably about $10 above scrap value :).
In 1988, I was about to put down payment for an '82 1.5L but someone snatched it from right under my nose. A beautiful example, all standard parts, no rust and drove perfectly. Years later, I happen to bump into the new owner and he said the car fell apart from rust in 6 months and he had to scrap it . That exorcised me of alfas for quite a number of years. Funny thing is, these cars can barely crack 10secs in standard form but it does not stop the alfa brigade from chasing 911s and the like. :)
And about the A110 you were suggesting? Zero available in the country, but wheels are in motion in my head. Shhh!
Do it :)

I am going to quit this thread soon, or else my wife will add a few more new names into her already burgeoning hit list :D
Zollo, you live in Southampton, right?
Zollo, since you somehow know so much about my teen-hood car icons. Here's a few more:-

Clear evidence that alien spaceship landed on earth in the 70s and Lancia used it as a rally car.

When I grow up - I want to take care of a rich man's house, solve mysteries and drive his Ferrari.
Possibly the loudest race car I've ever witnessed!
