This looks like a sensible replacement for your Williams. Right up your alley, so to speak.

A mate of mine had one of these for a while. Low- to mid-twenties to the gallon and easily in the teens on a spirited drive.

Also has the accolade of recording the highest speed I've driven on the public road :D

The last (3rd) owner had it for 8 years and it looks quite tidy. Must be a bargain at that price. So what if it drinks like a SUVs, that's par for the course for any performance vehicle. You are just spoilt by Clio's excellent economy.

Very true. Guess that's why hot hatches are so popular - performance and economy. Unfortunately the Clio is about the limit as to what I can afford to run atm!

There's also the small matter of an extra £2k to find! Still, as you say, quite cheap for a 3.8 (although it does say 5-speed. I thought the 3.8s were 6-speed?), particularly one with so few owners. Nice colour combo too 8)

Yup, that's a good one. A Bimmer nutter friend rang me up some months ago, to tempt me to buy the same era M5. It was a bargain as well with only 1 owner. But wife put a stop to that before I could get a chance to kick the tyres.

But if you are on a budget, how about this cheaper sensible transport :)
