View Full Version : Fan resistor
Hi guys,
Is this the fan swtich resistor please? (Heater fan don't work at all :()
Looks a little melted!
How much for a new one?
Matthew
yeah that looks familiar. usually just cut one of a scrap car and soldered on.
Thats the plug, not the resistor. Get a new resistor and a plug from a scrappy and solder on as said
Can anyone tell me, or better show me a picture of where the resistor is then please?
I assume the resistor is what the plug goes into?

Oh joy
Got work now, going to fiancee's after work, then paintball umpiring tomorrow, by time get home be dark and no doubt raining lol. Sunday I might actually do a little resting!
Please someone in control turn the water supply off for the rain on Monday and Tuesday
Matthew
Yeah just chop the old one off and fit a new one.
Did this on mine, fan works on 1,2 and 3 :D
You just chopped the old plug off? or the resistor as well?
Matthew
Nah chopped the multiplug off and connected a new plug to it.
Also fitted a new blower unit which the resistor was good in.
You could try a new blower unit of a low mileage car or buy the resistor from Renault.
Imo fitting the blower from summat like a low mileage Clio is your best bet as they've had less use :)
Bought blower unit and plug from ebay from a 1996 model. At least the plug will work. If not, time to get the soldering iron out

I had to chop the old plug off on my last clio too, the pinds corroded into the resistor.
Will it ever stop raining?!?!? Can't fix any of the probs with the car till it does, and can't solder in the wet either :(
This is the second time I have been hasty with a car purchase in my life, and have ended up regretting it. I will not be defeated on this blower issue though! I will fix it... if I have to strip the entire car!!!
Matthew
take solace in the fact that most of us have done it. its common. could have happened on any clio you bought
Metros also have a common fault like this. I think they design things to fail, sure it's part of making money on parts.
Next will be the quest of why my water temp only goes up 1/4 of the gauge and then only just above when sitting in traffic. Wonder if the thermostat is stuck open... (wierd that I should be wondering why something actually works well lol)
Matthew
or it could have a low temp thermostat fitted.

Yeah I've done this a fair few times as well, isn't really very difficult to do, more annoying trying to fit that stupid rubber strip between the windscreen and the scuttle panels tbh
Is it much of a job to replace the fan unit as well (since I bought a fan unit and plug together)?

The blower? Not really... 2/3 screws holding it in afaik?
Fab :) Had horrible visions of Renault requiring the blower to be hooked up to the water system and the rear wiper for a laugh :?
