Hello all.

I was recommended to the site by Summeh.

My little sister owns a 1.4 RT automatic. It is a very clean and tidy example but unfortunately age has got the better part of some of the parts, one thing's lead to another and she's asked me to help her out with it.

Anyway, I'm into my VW's, I own three of them, a 1985/6 Polo breadvan, a 1990/1 GT Polo breadvan and a 1991 Polo G40 Supercharged coupe which is my project.

For Joel

This is a cartoon of the daily

Here's some actual pics

Webber 32DTMR carb, twin down drafts and manual choke for better winter driving, better fuel economy and a tad more torque.

Corrado G60 seats, perhaps the best mod for any old Polo. So much better.

Old pics and not all mods are shown but a spec list to the RED VAN inlcude German tin pressed white number plates and a magnetic white D, LHD rear cluster got rid of the gay white square, centre console and coupe S steering wheel, 13*5.5 GT steel wheels, corrado G60 seats, twin lamp H4 grill, homemade headlamp wiring loom, 100w white bulbs, otherwise standard.

Within the next few weeks I'm going to town on it though, due to costs aftermarket parts will be used including Cup Car replica ARB poly drop blocks, polyflex TCA bushings, 80/40 evo suspension, new handbrake, new rear wheel bearings, new front brakes including sliders and rear acel bushes, new clutch cable, new coolant, oil change. So far all these parts are sat in my bedroom.

The GT is a scrapper so is just stripped lol.

The G40 looks standard, the spec is pretty big and is parts so off the top of my head bar a LHD rear cluster, again to rid the white square, early spec rear clusters, non-tinted.

Engine:
JR 3.5" collar cone filter, ducting and Jabba Heatshield
Jabba R1 further ported by Andy Boakes G40 charger
65mm pulley on twin V belts
Boost return removed and blanked 2nd charger inlet
2 litre ally catch tank
Charcaol canistor removed
Mocal 10 row oil cooler
Ally IC bucket scoop
Lloyd Allard multi core ally intercooler
Internally ported charger exhaust dome
New VW charger to IC hose
Ally boost ducting
Ported and polished BRV
51mm TB with Jenvy slim valve
port matched GT inlet manifold
Big Valave head
272 Newman cam
1308cc forged pistons
Balanced ACL mains and big ends
Balanced con rods
Lightened and balanced flywheel
finned sump
exhaust standard but new VW
Gemini Phase 2 LSD

Exterior:
15" lightweight Speedline alloys to fit a Clio re-worked for the Polo
300mm front disc converion using Hi-Spec slim line callipers and an ally carrier
Steel braided brake hoses
Cup Car ARB anti-dive ally drop blocks
Polyflex bushes all round
Cup car ally top mounts, camber adjustable with a steel brace bar
No wing mirrors
Headlights removed, replaced with black mesh grills

Interior:
1 seat
Clocks
Boost gauge
Oil pressure gauge
Oil temperature guage
Sunvisors
Headliner, to risky to remove without damaging it.

A work in progress and is a few years away from completion, engine and gearbox will be finished first, the subframe is currently being tested on the designers car as is the inlet manifold. The chassis will be second and the body work will be sprayed last to save damage through accident.

For Coops, the G40 when I got it was really quite smooth. Power on demand all the way to 120mph with a 0-60 of 6.5, it was running 140bhp with a custom remap and fuelling setup on rollers at that point. A little too much torque though perhaps. My friend has a 90Bhp GT that does 0-60 in less than 8 seconds, 1.3 NA and that's smooth as, about half a centimeter from the floor, drives like a go-kart and is road legal.

Yeah, thought I recognised your name.

notice how the arse end of it sags a little, it's starting to make a knocking noise over bumps and around corners so I'm going to change it.

i know this is takin over (sorry Northy mate  )

but this is now VW technical forum!

whats likely to knock arse end? mine sounds metalically, like exhaust on axle but it cant be, i've tie tagged that mother solid, anything else common?

Mine just sounds as if the offside spring has come out of it's seat. So it's probably snapped right at the top or bottom. It's 21 years old so I'd say it's lasted a good long time. The front suspension does float a little when pressed so a good excuse to call Phill about one his kits.
