View Full Version : wilwoods
Ok right i have been reading the various posts over time on these brakes...
so i have the following questions
if you have a set of wilwood calipers, do they use standard discs and pads or do you have to get bigger uprated jobs.
Mounting brackets they dont fit on standard so where do you get them from(have seen yozzasport named a few times) or has anyone got any specs for making them :D
Hoses, due to the longer length needed im guessing i would need longer hoses then the standard good rich jobs i have, anyone have specs and length ect or where to get premade ones thanks :D
^^ I'd like to know all that too
my wilwoods fit std size discs, and yes you need a mounting bracket made up, i got mine as a kit nearly 2 year ago from mark ritchspeed
yes the hoses also need to be 2inch longer and obviously have the correct fitting for the calipers themselfs
northy had a set made up to fit williams hubs but runs 285mm discs, dont think he has ever fitted them tbh!
yoz can sort you out with brackets but you would have to talk to him and fred about that
if someone would like brackets i don't mind removing one and taking it somewhere to be priced up as the hybrid isn't my main car so it can be off the road for a while
if you would that would be great :D
right the fitting on these is aparently
Fitting Attachment 1: Female threads
Thread Size: 1/8 in. NPT
anyone know what the length is and clio side fitting, then its just a case of having some made or find exsisting ones
Same as what Richy said really,im in the process of trying to have some brackets made up for another member, just getting the time on the cnc to do them really, got mine from Yozzasports but tbh i wouldnt reccomend them, had nothing but trouble and a lot of waiting around for parts with them

bayliss can you post up the hose dimensions, and if possible get a quote for the brackets..... i can then order the calipers
the hoses are 2inch longer, std fitment for the side which fits to the car itself, caliper side is 1/8in NPT as said iirc
VIPERONE
09-01-2007, 20:49
1.38/35.1mm bore, 1.00 / 25.4 discs width is the dimensions/settings for the calipers themselves
wilwood 120-6805 is the part number for mine
VIPERONE
09-01-2007, 20:55
yup...
£50 per caliper new ;-)
are these 4 pots? so they run the standard shape/size pad, and £50 a caliper if they are 4 pots where the hell can i get some? :D
yes they are 4pot calipers, they dont run std pads, you need the correct pads for the calipers, also brackets to fit them and new hoses made to fit
okay thats fair enough, but are they really £50 a caliper???
how much are they kit form?
cheap as fook that - might be having a look into those when these die
also, can you only get pads for them from wilwood???
VIPERONE
09-01-2007, 21:19
i can get the pads aswell, again for an ultra cheap price iirc it was £150 for 2 x calipers and poly e pads...u just need to sort hoses and brackets..
ow so there ordered threw you are they? do you mind me asking where you get them from, or are you a supplier. Also how much are the pads alone, and do they only do one compound?

im late for work,i'll be back on at 7am before i sleep will update or pm u with info... as i may well start supplying...
(the callipers of course)
okay mate, well im sure others will want to know so you may aswell post it up here, will find it easy enough. Will be looking to uprate brakes about summer time, was going to just rebuild standard calipers but wilwoods 4post for £50 a piece :O be rude not to.
im late for work,i'll be back on at 7am before i sleep will update or pm u with info... as i may well start supplying...
(the callipers of course)
please do on both accounts...
I reckon you'd get a lot more people interested if you could manage somehow to supply an all in one box of wonders
^^ Id be very interested in this, please let me know details.
i have R21 Turbo calipers on the front of mine with the made up brackets, the wilwoods at £50 each sound interesting, what are the dimensions of the bracket as I use a 285mm x 21mm disc
i have all the details but i shall let gunner tell you since i got them from him :D
price was roughly about 50 quid per caliper and
£30 for the pads but then you needed to add shipping and maybe import tax....
Then you needed the brackets, haven't got a price on those and then you needed the hoses too which iirc were about £20-30, custom made jobs....
Are they the wilwoods without the dust seals though??
they are 120-6805's which are the 4 pot dynalite jobs you can get diff pads but the polly e's look like they have the best temp range for normal road use.
I will be after the midilites rather than the dynalites as they have seals in.
If anyone is able to sort these out at a good price I would appreciate it and will need brackets too.
dont take this the wrong way, i can understand ppl asking about if there dust sealed, but i have run my set of 2 years, bayliss has a set 3 years old, gaz's nana is about 4year old or more and all ours work fine, and still do!
matty get the part number and finding them shouldnt be too much of a problem, also the unsprung weight on the dynalites is supposed to be much lighter hence making the handeling better
Brackets will be the hardest to get done so if people are going for dynalites and getting brackets I will be up for some.
that should be ' ive run my set for 2 years'

can somone PM me the details i need some for my Kit car... cortina brakets are quite cheep anyway
If someone can sort out the calipers at £50 each or let me know where I can get them I definately want some, and I am sure others do too.
Then hopefully a few of us can get the brackets knocked out.

Just out of question are these the calipers with dust seals or not?
Dynalite aren't dust sealed and these are the calipers everyone is using.
Midilites are newer calipers, lug mounted so need different brackets, more expensive and with the dust seals.
dingdong...
if thats the case get the brackets made up.. need to confirm bayliss has the willy ones.. as im sure he bought 172 wilwoods?
no mate definatly willy ones, unfortunatly u will need to wait until after oulton now as i need to go get car mapped but i'm more than willing to remove one and go get it priced up for u guys for a pair
BLOODY EDIT BUTTON i will get a pair priced priced up for being CNC'd and then collect cash from u guys before i get a few sets made, just out of curiosity how many ppl are wanting these brackets to give me rough idea of how many pairs will need making
put me down for a pair of brackets please
me too dependent on getting hold of the calipers
let me know on price, depending on how much the brackets are will sway me :D
Make a list then and i'll get a price i'm assuming the more pairs we get the cheaper the price will be
dependant on price i'll have a set of brackets made up - can always get the calipers when funds allow then
well i didn't ask for maybe names i said give me a rough idea of how many want brackets bcos i may get it cheaper than getting an odd set made up
^^ well you can make my name first now then when you do

Got that wrong. Midilites are radial mounting (whatever that is) and Dynalites are lug mounted.
Z-120-7543 seems to be the correct model of Midilite if 120-6805 is the correct Dynalite.

yeah 120-6805 is lug mount, it just means they mount like the std carriers do but using custom brackets, the others mount with the bolts 90degree over, ie the bolts point at the shaft/stub axle etc if that makes sense

I have braided hoses for the front which I could use as they are goodridge ones.
Not sure if I can as most seem to fit longer ones unless that is just for widetrack?
you cant use std hoses, you need a set making up which are 2inch longer then std and have the correct fitting for the caliper, goodridge can make these for you btw, bayliss rang them and got his made!
coolio goodridge it is then, wonder if they'd do us a batch cheapish
so what do you need then?
Calipers
Hoses (custom.. bet that will cost)
Brackets
Pads
Discs... what's the size?

think stromba has dropped one of for pricing up. who will be cheapest
Thought Stromba got his from yozzasport and wasn't happy with the brakes IIRC, so not sure one of those mounts would make a good template/master.
Heard from someone who fitted these once that you need to grind away some of the hub or something to get it to fit properly so not the easiest DIY mod with those brackets.
yeh we had to grind a little of the hub away on richys williams, no biggie took 2 minutes and richys work spot on
Well if Bayliss's bracket is not from Yozzasport and doesn't need any messing with the hub I think I would personally prefer to wait till next month when his bracket could be used.
matty, im not sure which strombas are but with mine all they needed was alittle filing off the hub to square it off, just to give clearance for the caliper

Anyone know of any other sources for brackets.
MOT time in just over a month so if anything is need on my front brakes I will be wanting to fit Wilwoods then.
ive started to have some brakets made up again for mandy....will see how these fit before i post up any more details.
can someone tell me where or who to speak to about about the willwood calipers please?
can anyone confirm what the model number is for the Willwood callipers the brackets are being made up for?
Are they dynalite, powerlite, standard, do they use standard sized discs?
Richys are: mine are 120-6805 iirc
Are these the same.
I wish to order some but want to make sure the brackets will fit?

whats the going rate for a complete set of willwoods dynalite with brackets
And the value of a pair of secondhand (about 6k miles) Dynalites, complete with pads, brackets and braided hoses, anyone?
can any one tell me the best 4-pot wilwood to suit, and also where you can buy them please?
cheers
buy from rally design. http://www.raldes.co.uk/

in answer to that i was offered £300 for my full set about 5k on them, that was new pads but no discs to
obviously i didnt sell as there on my 16v :D
Cheers Richy. Job done already
lol i know its alittle late, but i didnt know anyone had replyed untill someone fetched it back up!

Nothing much has happened on the brackets front it seems in over 2 months.
Don't think anyone is willing to offer theirs to be used as a template so only way would be if done from scratch.
Luckily car passed MOT without needing anything, but when I change pads and disks at front next I want to fit Wilwoods at same time.

I've just dropped in a design to get a quote for the Wilwood brackets..
Should be in the next couple of days..
Will let people know what happens...
i had my brackets priced up and they came to £100 each !
i'm not sure how it all works, but I would have thought that once a CNC program is written they should be able to knock them out pretty quick??
will have to wait and see....
is the bracket the same on both sides? or are they handed??
mine is the same both sides from memory.

I work at a garden tractor manufacturing company where they do all the designing with AutoCAD, Solid Edge etc as they make near enough everything themselves......as u said...once they have designed something and got the drawing etc, it takes no time at all to cut in the machine. These types of brackets would not take very long to make.

are people still interested at 50quid?
I'd still be interested at 50 quid - thanks for your efforts Tony. I think I can source the new pipes okay but where is the cheapest place to source the Dynalite caliper? £50 each was mentioned earlier in the thread, and also RallyDesign, but looking at their website they are £96.50, or is that the price for a pair?
Also can someone confirm that these fit the standard disc and will clear a 15" wheel, as both are key requirements for me.
yeah these will use the std discs and fit 15" wheels...
that 96+vat per caliper = 112 x 2 + 50 quid for the pads ...
I reckon I have a place that will do discs and pads for 225 all in...
but as normal, trying to get something in writing is a nightmare...

Little Update,
Hoses were ordered yesterday... will put some pics up when I have them..
2" longer then standard, with the correct wilwood end.
What grade of aluminium are you using guys....when i priced the brackets up they were £100 each !!!!
HE30..
what spec had you had quoted?
let me find out for you....
Taken from the K-Tec web site..
''HE30 grade aluminium (as used to make the extender brackets on touring car brakes)''
I had a few quotes close to 100quid as well...
just a little update, hoses have been ordered and should be here next week, 2" longer then standard with the correct fitting to bolt straight into the wilwood calipers....
also waiting for a call from the cnc place to say the brackets are ready.. hopefully next week...
Northy did you find out what your brackets were made from?
dont wilwood sell the brackets for like £50 or summat?? altho they then need machining to suit as they are universal brackets.
think they sell just a block of ally...
