View Full Version : whats a good cheap runaround?

i dont want anything to new, maybe around 98/99/2000 ish, cheap tax and inssurance and pref. 5 door.
price is obv important as i dont want to be spending too much, and also a high MPG is pretty much essential, as it'll be doing about 100+ miles a day.

i've heard good things about VW polo's but they hold quite a high price.
is there anything anyone else can think of?

Citroen Xsara HDi has got to be my vote. Or any Citroen diesel, really, if you want VFM. Though I'd always go with the 306, cos I prefer the look of 'em and they apparently drive better.

does around 420 miles to a £30 tank if you drive it nice, and thats country roads! :twisted:

that sounds more like it, if i get this job im going to need something that does some fairly massive MPG.

any other makes and models?

Though I'd always go with the 306, cos I prefer the look of 'em and they apparently drive better.

heard good things about the 306 diesels. Would be my first choice if I was looking for something around that price and a diesel anyway.

so what kind of MPG or miles to a full tank are we talking with a 306 diesel?
what engine sizes do they come in as i was looking for something upto 1.5 (for cheaper tax! :D )

The 306 is a 1.9 Turbo Diesel or a 1.9HDI iirc.

For a 1.5tdi, your gonna be looking at a corsa or summat. Smaller car.
