Hi all,

Just wondering if any of you tow your clio to track days, am looking at a lightweight trailer (390kgs) four wheeled and braked.

Will be towing clio/205 or similar with either passat tdi 130 sport or mondeo tdci.

Will i be ok with weights?

i tow to trackdays....

from what i know about the highway code and weights is as follows.

If you passed your test before Jan 1997 you can tow a gross train weight of 8250kg without any further licenses. You can also drive a minibus with a trailer over 750kgs MAM.

If you passed your test after Jan 1997 you can legally tow upto 3500kg in a gross laden vehicle weight.

The car you tow with can be anything providing the trailer does not exceed the unladen weight of the towing vehicle used.

A northy example
My xantia = 1200kg (a lightweight)
Trailer = 400kg
Clio = 850kg

= 1250 so im 50kg over weight when i tow unforunatly. I have only struggled to hire a trailer once as they wanted me to have a van to tow with.

cheers,

Not sure what the weights are on my two tdi's but will have a look. I have no probs with towing as passed test 15 years ago!!!!

Think the trailer will weigh in at 390.

PRG Minisport

trailer being lightweight (380kgs) but really strong and very well made.

Its ideally suited for small cars such as the Saxo, Nova, MX5, 205, 106's etc but also ideal for Caterhams and Westfields.

Its very much like a Ifor Williams or Brian James trailer but much better value!

Details can be seen at: www.prgtrailers.co.uk but in brief:

"A scaled down version of our Sport model. This fixed bed trailer is the ideal choice for carrying small lightweight sportscars such as Caterham's and Westfield's or for small hatchbacks. It has all the features and quality running gear of its larger brother but will fit into a standard sized garage.

The Mini SuperSport has all the features of the standard Mini Sport, with the addition of a spare wheel, single speed manual winch and a Bradley 'Doublelock' hitch security lock."

Its working out cheaper for me to buy new - and when i sell in a 5 years time i will have lost hardly anything.
