RIGHT............., DAVE (number1) PUT A BRAND NEW CLUTCH CABLE ON TONIGHT AND IT'S STILL THE SAME - WON'T GO INTO GEAR AND THE BITE IS RIGHT ON THE FLOOR :evil: :x :x i don't know what else it could be - still jumps outta gear and won't stay in at all
i'm missing the middle bolt of the dog bone mount would this make a difference?
also my screaming hasn't stopped so i'm tempted to break the clio as i've had enough of it
bloody nightmare, but like you say ash it was like that before we swapped engines so i guess clutch is in ok, just trying to remember what happened when my clutch was on the floor im pretty sure after i changed both the clutch ratchet and cable it was fine, i reckon the ratchet is the next item to be changed, but we need to get a bolt in the rear bracket first, i reckon after you do that you should be able to get it in gear just..
clutch ratchets are great fun to change!
Ash if you do drop that motor round tommorow try and make it in the afternoon as im home from work then

yeah will do, but that screaming hasn't stopped...... this is really starting to annoy me
even tho we've changed the cable it's made no difference - is there something outta line?
could be miles off here, but i just adjusted the linkage on mine and now it's finding all the gears. was reluctant to go into anything before

just make sure that the clutch cable goes through on the pedal assembly properly, i had this problem last month. i have a pedal assembley which you can have off me for £15, its brand new as renault would'nt give me a refund :evil:
The missing bolt int eh dog bone will be the cuplret, linkage is linked to a fixed point on the car, so if egine is in wrong positiona nd moving then it will jump outa gears and fail to engage them properly
do you still have the recipt?
I'm telling you if the dog bone isn't connected that is definatly 100% your problem.
Always remember when fixing cars or trying to solve problems, go for the cheapest/easiest soloution first, then strat getting more expensive and complicated
also tho, the actual gear stick moves like the whole travel of the gears, everytime i put my foot down - this is what's causeing it to jump outta 2nd
Yes beacuse the engine is moving because the dog bone mount isn't; connected.......you are just adding more weight to my arguement here
:lol: - but the only bolt that isn't in is the centre one
There are 2 bolts one each end
If the gearstick moves as excessivly as you have pointed out then the dog bone mount is the problem
if you have problems with the clutch 1st check:
1) the clutch pedal mechanism is working right
2) you have routed the cable properly
If they are ok and the cable is new, bung a few metal washes (use a chisel to cut a section out of them so you can slot it over the cable) where the end of the cable meets the clutch arm, this should simulate a shorter cable and should be ok for a bit.
Ash what lunner is saying is correct, fit a new bolt to the one thats missing on the dog bone and i reckon you will get gears again, clutch is right on the floor however it was like that before you blew it up i reckon clutch ratchet
I tried to fool a cable into thinking it was shorter when this happened on mine but the ratchet just kept slipping

most likeys the clutch adjuster is knackered . ther about 17 quid from renault.

When the dog bone mount is disconnected the engine 'hangs' you have to push it forwards (iirc) to line it up, since the gear selector rod is a fixed rod and is fixed to the engine, that in this case is rocking back and forth, and the other end is fixed to the car chassis that doesn't move, then as the engine moves it will push out of gear, and becasue the engien is not in the right position it will make selecting gears nigh on impossible.
Yes the advice about clutch cable and adjusters is sound had the dog bone mount been ok and the engine not having miles and fooking miles of 'swing' in it.
I will put money on it REPLACE/SORT THE DOGBONE OUT AND IT WILL CURE YOUR PROBLEMS. less of this shit about clutch cable and adjusters.
I'm sorry if i'm being rude, but anyone who knows the slightist about cars wil tell you straight away that the dog bone is where your problem lies, and the soloution is a £3-£4 bolt and nut from reno, or even B&Q, and about 5 mins fitting it

well just put the bolt back through and the jumping utta gears and whining/screaming has stopped,
but it's still really hard to get into gear - i really have to ram it in! any suggestions
hate to gloat but....... 8)
Remove cable from pedal, and re-rachet it up, depress pedal a good 20 times or so

The rachet mechanism on the top of the pedal self tensions the clutch cable, sometimes it just doesn't tension it up enough, haynes says pump the pedal a few times, but i've learnt from experience that you need to pump it alot of times, usually
ok so, i need to take it off the pedal - and then re-attach it then pump it up - and that should do it?
Swap pedal mechanism then failing that check release bearing/clutch etc
