View Full Version : What does your car do in 1st??
Never push mine in first, but had 45 out of it last night @ about 7rpm, so prob would have done a bit more beofre hittting the limiter, I'm reckonin no more than about 2/3mph tho. As it hits 75 in 2nd I thought 45 was quite good, but what does eveyone else think?
What does eveyone else do?
seems a bit unrealistic to be honest??
what car are you on about anyway :P ?
both my valver and hybrid do about 35 in first and about 62 in second i think
Havent tried pushing mine in first! Turbo will probably blow up!!
I am on about my valver, but its not standard. I thought it was impressive thats why I asked.
It had an uprated gearbox in it before I bought it, doesnt say on the reciepts what it is tho, wondering if the ratios may be different.
Limit is 7.9
And a willy has a lower rev limit that a valver so I would expect your valver to hit higher than your hybrid.
possible diesel gearbox, but with extra revs that sounds about right. Mine was just under 70mph in 2nd at 6500rpm, 105ish in 3rd, 140mph in 4th.and WELL off the clock in 5th...
this one now does 45mph in 1st, just under 80 in 2nd, 100+ in 3rd, 130ish in 4th...
Thanks Jesus.
Thats all I wanted to know.
Suppose the best way to see what gearbox it has is to look for markings on it.
Sounds like a crazy box!!!

no chance unless it has a tag on it !
Whats your fuel economy like just out of intrest ?
Sounds like a crazy box!!!
Fcuk knows wats in it, thats why I asked.
Standard valvers do about 40 in first tho ...thinking about it lol
Could be a 19 box :S ...I'll have a good poke around when you come get the lights
thought the 19 16v box was the same as the valver standard box??
cast your expert eyes at weekend matey.
All the reciept says is, UPRATED STRENGTHENED GEARBOX.
At a charge of £675 inc fitting...??!!??
Northy, fuel economy is about 35mpg, but I have cams and headwork, plus the usual decat, IK stainless etc. Just had a lightened flywheel this month and an adjustable fuel rail but this seems to have made little difference to the fuel economy. Seems to really drop the revs when you change up if this is any insight.
Small difference in gearing and housing
why look to see what its doing in first?
when im pushing my car hard in 1st is when im launching at 1/4mile. always more worried about looking at the rev counter for the perfect shift.
Shouldn't even need to look at the rev counter stew

I dont regularly nail my car in any gear, I actually drive around at 30 the majority of the time.
However, nailing it every once in a while gives me a comparison of the drive difference from modifications I have made.
Generally following a new mod I boot it from second upwards to see if I can feel much difference, hence I've never noticed what it does in first.
On this particular occasion I was stuck behind a tractor doing about 5mph, I nailed it to pass him and noticed one of them flashin speed signs that tells you how fast your going. It said, "Your speed is 32mph", I glanced the rev counter and thought I may as well push it and see what it does.
Not that I should explain myself like, I only asked what others do as I suspect mine has a different gearbox and wanted a comparison.
he he he u tell them!!!!
No idea what my williams would do in 1st to scared to push it and also dont want to, dont wanna damage anything etc.

60-62 in 2nd
90 in 3rd
110 in 4th
130+ in 5th

LOL, your hardly likely to break anything, that's what that limiter thing is for ;)
so it seems the average is about 40 in a valver - except for those who are afraid to drive their cars hard!
So with mine getting 45, it's either down to the higer rev limit combined with the modifications I have, or it may have a diff gearbox in. hhmmm
More investigation to take place..........

Id say its either a high limiter or speedo error imo.

Just what I was thinking!
prolly both Nyk, you can use a diesel box and 19 dif for a lower final drive and that's the strongest box type you can have I was told (no idea if true), but apparently that would be slightly shorter geared than the box I had, so combine that with yours being uprated and stronger and the upped limit I'd say that sounds about spot on personally.
Cheers for the help guys.
Will carry out some more tests and see what we can decifer....

when mine was a valver i cant remember what i could get in first, but second was about 65, third was bout 95, 4th was 135 and 5th was just off the clock with a long run-up, dunno what it does now with the megane bottom end :?
tried mine out 2nite.... was wet on the roads and as soon as the turbo kicked in the wheels spun!! he he!
will try it out again 2moro!
doubt its very good in first tho! she seems to like 2nd gear!

Chipped unfortuantely but not taken anywhere near 7.5 roads down hear have some tarmac between potholes and speed bumps

Chipped with what? I thought chipped willy engines only revved to 7.3 anyway.

depends on the chip

well the previous owner said 7.5 but could be 7.3 dunno dont intend screaming to find out tbh the way brakes are at the mo i need to get her to stop properly before thinking about speed

i always thought u could set a chipped cars rev limiter to any!!!
mines set at 7.7k
depends what it is.
Most chips are set at the same rev limits. Some home made ones you can alter to what you want.
