Ok

So me and the other half fancied a bit of comparison against our cars. So Lee turned off the traction control and we went at it.

I kept with him till about 70 (just as I got in 3rd), he just ahead of me in 4th gear. Which I put down to him having 6 gears. When I drive the 4mo it hardly has any first gear at all.

After that he left me.

Did better than i thought though.

Is this the new type one Nyk?

I've only ever had one or two blasts with these, but was in the Willy. 3 up the first time and going up hill, sat on his arse and he moved over at 130mph... aaah the days of the diesel gearbox... good job he did move then, I was only 10mph off 5th gear and it would have left me lol

Is that the jc5 gearbox? Whats the ratios? Any modifications to get it to fits? Is it much better than williams box?

not sure, it's the diesel one with 'possibly' an R19 diff in it, but think it's just the diesel box as the ratio's are incredible. Only problem is change gear and your off cam, and it doesn't pull back on cam in 5th without the help of a hill... or slip streaming 2 live at 150mph lol

I wasn't sure how quick the 4 Motions were. I was in my girlf's car on the way to work this morning (2.0 16v 206cc) and had a little go with what was badged as a 4 Motion.... he was trying as he'd been driving like an idiot all the time he was in front of me, racing away in traffic etc. I had him away from the lights on a dual-ed stretch though, suspected at the time it may have been a fake, and seein as they're more than a challange for a Willy, reckon his was just a non-turbo GTi or such-like

Dont be fooled the 4 motion is a very quick car.

It accelerates in every gear, it's real fun to drive. Ours is a Mk4 2003 reg.

There are a lot of TDI's/ GTI's etc out there badges up as 4 motion as there is no kit like the R32 or anniversary GTI and are therefore an easy replica. I was shocked that I'd stayed with it till 70, but I'm on new tyres all round and high end mods on my car.

my engine had a full rebuild and crank regrind just before I bought it, about 9K ago and runs sweet as a nut.

When the time comes and that it need replacing I will prob have a meggy bottom end. until then I like the reliability and strength of the engine I have. Tiss a quick one.

Strange, I stuck with a golf 4-motion to 110 in my old valver, would expect to batter one now tho....

Cant have been a 4 motion then.

Ours cruises at 150 on the m'way all day.

2.8 V6 against 1.8 16v - I think the 4 motion would win every time.

From the experience I've had, I thought they were pretty slow tbh :?

I reckon he's done some sneaky mods to it

Honestly its totally standard.

My other half is a good driver tho, suppose its down to the driver as with anything.

Is it exactly the same engine as the vr6?

nyk
30-09-2006, 19:54
No

Its the same engine as the R32. But the R32 is bored out to 3.2 rather than 2.8 which with is where it gets its extra power from.

2.8 V6 4x4 6 speed

You wanna come an have a go in it, you'll see they're far from slow an i've bin in a lot of fast cars to compare it. It's not the fastest I've evr bin in far from it, but its very quick.

granted they are a great car, very very strong but dont forget about the weight, the valver weighs just under a ton where as the golf weighs just over 1500kgs

but id have one anyday, they look the bollocks, sound emmence and never seem to break down!!!

hhhhhmmmmm 4motion engine in a mk 1 cough winston

Cant see how they would make a whole new 2.8 V6 engine when they have one sitting there, which is 170bhp? You sure they havent just tuned the vr6 engine to make the extra break?

Any pics of this car? Engine bay etc too? :)

I dont and as its raining today........

All I know is that it is aroud 1400kg,

199ft/lb torque 204bhp VVT engine. I think 0-60 is about 7/7.1.

I think the difference between the R32 and the V6 is obviously the larger bore and the VVT on both the inlet and exhaust camshafts, where as the V6 is just on the inlet. Dont quote me on that but I think thats where it gets its extra power.
