does anyone do lightened flywheels for the 16v? i had one on my 200sx and it made loads of differnece!
nick @ hillpower does!
Think it helps on my car :)
yer but is it worth just having a lightened flywheel on its own without crank, rods and pistons as a few people have told me not to bother wasting my money unless i do the lot and apparently renault have done pretty well with matching the weight of the pistons rods crank etc?
Just a thought, im sure someone will let us know!
Danny
Stan will be doing me a balenced crank and lightened flywheel
there is little point in lightening pistons/rod assembly unless you are counter-balancing the crank (lightening the cranks counter sections to suit the recip. mass). balancing the piston/rod mass is an entirley different exercise....little point IMO.
lightening the flywheel is a different story...this is as independent rotary mass, and so CAN be lightened as an individual mass. it will improve throttle response. it should be dynamically balnsed also.
i can offer a complete dynamic balance of the whole cranktrain inc lightening the fly....crank/pulleys/flywheel/clutch cover/all bolts. this is £200.

how much would be took off a flywheel for this price? could the flywheel be slotted as well?
sounds good stan but as above how much if i sent u my flywheel?
for just lighten and balance of the fly would be around £60.
i wouldnt slot a cast one.....
as for reduction, i got mine down to 5kg from 7.5kg, but i also removed the trigger pattern.

Does this include removal and refitting?
Mat.
Stan, slotting is fine on a 120 deg triangulation, and so long as you dont go right through the flywheel. Not a had a problem.
i enquired about this when i rebuilt mine.
but after weighing mine, and finding it to be 5.5 kgs with bolts i decided not to bother lol
was quoted some very very silly prices for the work doin too.most were in the £400 bracket......one joker wanted £600+ lmao
btw thats for full lighten/balance
WHAT!!!!
of just the components?
i sent him the block, with pistons/crank/rods fitted, and a cheque for £600.hed cash the cheque and b/l the btm end.
obviously i pissed meself n told him to fuk off....lol

So if you just had the flywheel lightened and balanced on a valver how noticable a difference would it make?

It should make a fair bit of difference as all the power is above 4000rpm so it should get there quicker.
Matt
I weighed my flywheel last night and it weighs 5kg, so what can be done with this or is it light enough already?
I'd say that's light enough.
Go too light and you run the risk of stalling when the revs drop due to hardly any inertia weight to keep it turning
make sure u get it done properly tho, as u wouldnt want the flywheel coming apart at 7000rpm and slicing through you/your passenger.
