Stupid garage (steering rack rubber cover)

Hi,

MOT pulled up play in the steering rack, well after further investigation its just the common run of the mil play in the UJ at the bulk head.

Great so they welded it up for me and that was that.

Got in the car to drive home noticed it sounded a bit more tinney. Hmms i thought.

It sounds like you can hear the flow of petrol entering the engine, like a contstandthard trickle, its hard to explain.

Have they put the Rubber jacket back on incorrectly?, therefore letting me hear the engine bay through the hole

Thats more than likely the problem - when changing my column, i had to nip out to the shops to get some bolts, and drove without that rubber boot on, and it was a lot louder inside the car, amazing that the boot can make all that difference really..

Its not the UJ that wears and needs to be welded its just a slip joint :wink:

And yeah sounds like the boot needs to be pushed back down/on correctly.
