im gonna need new discs and pads all round, i could really do with stuff thats good for everyday driving and also track driving.

also, this might sound like a stupid question, but does it mater wether youve got ABS or not? IE - will only certain discs/pads fit ABS models?

TBH I don't think it makes a difference in component choice. Think it is just the hub carrier or driveshaft cause it has the timing teeth on it.

I think the general concensus is that stadard discs are fine, as long as you use uprated pads, say the Mintex 1144's.

After this then you could invest in new calipers, few of the guys run the Wilwood 4 pots.

ABS only affects your choice on the rear discs as they have the bearings and ABS rings in them.

Personally I'd just stick with standard discs all round, with std rear pads and my fave, a set of Ferodo DS2500 pads for the fronts.

That's done me fine so far on road and track.

what does everyone think of ebc disks and ebc green stuff pads?
im just talking to dan_williams about his.

also (again, lol ), would willy brake stuff (discs, pads etc) fit straight onto a valver?

im so non clued up on brakes and suspension. lol :)

Willy brakes are exactly the same mate. I'd avoid EBC like the plague.

You really don't need uprated discs. Mark Ritchie who used to come on here sold uprated Wilwood 4-pot kits and he recommended sticking with std discs even with those. He tested all the others to destruction and found the std to be no worse.

rears are the most expensive ones mate - think flamingmonkey can get them for £80 with bearings.

right, i think ive come up with a solution to my new brakes issue. solid discs at the back, vented at the front. also maybe new brake hoses (depending on budget :) )

the discs i can get locally from a car spares shop near me, however my next question is about pads and hoses.

so far i've had 2 types of pads recommended:-
Mintex 1144
Ferodo DS2500
are there any other pads that would be suitable for both road and track, and where is the cheapest place to get them from?

with regards to the hoses is there a particular brand that people recommend or will any do, and which is best to have stainless ends or zinc plated ends.

Re: Pads. Those are the two I always hear the best about mate.

Pagid fast road pads are well regarded aswell, ive got them on mine and im not too sure about em, never had them fade on me but i think there are better pads out there tbh, standard Ferodo Premiers were better IMO

another question :)

would 260mm discs fit straight on behind the wheel, or would i have to stick to 238mm's?

Swervin_Mervin

Don't bother mate. It's just extra unsprung weight anyway.

16v/Williams are 259mm anyway..

Or are you on about your RT? or on about the back discs on a 16v/Williams?

Am I missing something, heh. I feel like I am

lol sorry dude they're for the valver, i'll explain :)

i've just rung up my local car spares people and i asked for prices on solid discs at the back, and vented ons on the front.

for the front he said he's got 2 sizes, 260mm and 238mm so if standard is 259 then i want 260 yeah?

No, you want 259. :P

As for rear - easier to get from Renault cus' the bearing is already pressed in.
