Starter Motor Issues Now Dead But Resets After Disconnecting Battery

Hi I知 hoping someone can help! I have starter motor issues on a Williams 1.

It all started when I had issues with the starter motor single click bumped started ok so I assumed it was the Solinoid and replaced with a brand new Lucas starter motor.

All went fine for a couple of weeks then the single click started intermittently.

Replaced the earth strap from gear box to inner wing no improvement.

So got a new starter motor Lucas type 2地d replacement fitted today, started car up and it did single click and went totally dead, nothing worked it was although the battery was dead.

I then tested the battery and voltage was ok, I removed the terminal put it back on the battery and it was as if the car has reset itself but it goes totally dead every time I turn the ignition with a single click and the only way bring life back into the car is to remove a battery reminal for a moment.

    Does anyone have any suggestions

I just feel that I致e got nothing to show for all my grazed knuckles getting the starter in!

    Please please help!

The only thing I can think of is to test the battery and charging system under load with one of these...they actually show you how your battery and charging system are working when starting and running the car.

As testing a battery statically is not always reliable.

Hi Ian this is a good idea but I will struggle to start the car as is.

Battery tested all ok, I even bench tested two starters all ok yet the fault still remains.

I fitted a new spade terminal onto the starter and no change.

The single click still remains. Has anyone any suggestions ?
