Matt, I'm sorry mate, but whoever was driving the 205 was either shit, or was toying with you.
I used to chase after 180bhp Audi TTs in my 1900, and rarely lost against them A 1.6 GTi is the same speed to 100 as a 1.9. So a GTi would dick all over the swift, all day, everyday.
I loved my 205, it handled like a dream, with 309 GTi suspension, it was like a go-kart. But it was old, creaky and was just generally starting to get on my nerves, so I sold it.
I much prefer the valver. Much the same, but more predictive in the corners and comfier to drive.
If I had another GTi................... it would be MI16 powered
mine does 59Originally Posted by matt uk
the valver when new was immense. it was white which was/still is vary rare, it was a m plate, didnt have leather. used to turn lots of heads i remember, being white it was a pain to keep clean but i kept it immaculate. in all the time i had it (5 years) it only let me down 3 times, twice with a broken clutch cable and once with a flat battery. after 3 years i had a full decatted magnex fitted and a k&n and had it lowered 35mm but kept the original wheels on it as i liked them. remembered it handled loads better in the corners after having it lowered and it sounded really nice. sold it with 63000mls on the clock to a boy from paisley (near glasgow) remember when he came with his friend to look at it they couldnt believe the condition of it, paintwork was unmarked. sold it for just £4300 in the end that was about 4 or 5 years ago. never seen or heard of it since. :( checked hpi its not been written off or anything so hopefully its still going strong.
the typical answer of a guy who's never been in a swift gti...
trust me i would comfortable beat 1.6 205 gti
definatly!
you really are underestimating the little 1.3 16v
