MOT HISTORY CHECK

http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/internet/j...ry-Request.jsp

Good link to find out inconsistancies in MOT's (can be used to check for dodgy MOT's). Has worked well on another forum in exposing some members for selling dodgy-mobiles.
Also providing a good record (recorded at MOT inspections) of 'concerning items' regarding vehicles that you own or wish to purchase.

VIN CHECK

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/vin.htm

The Renault one has a bit more to it than that.

The Renault chassis number ( oval plate ) has a unique information system that in code will tell you everything about your car. It isnt contained in the chassis number like American vehicles on the website youve provided.

The chassis will start VF1 C57M 1234567891 eg .... the 4th 5th 6th 7th digit of you chassis number is your car type

C = 3DR
57 = CLIO 1991 - 1997
M = WILLIAMS

This number will be at the top of the metal tag on the drivers side front headlamp panel

Underneath this number will be the remaining codes

C57M
23 720 E01
RJ 608 E2
F005103 .........example

23 - the 1st number indicates the gearbox option / factory type and the 2nd number indicates the 1st equipment level

720 is the technical equpiment code ( UK CAR )

E01 is the additional equipment spec

RJ is the trim code

608 is the paint code

E2 is the equipment level ( E1 BASE // E2 POSH // E3 DEAD POSH )

The last one will start F005103 eg - The "F" tells you it was built at the production plant Flins in France - the remaining 6 numerical digits tell you in code the year and month it was assembled.

These codes are only of any use if you have a dialogys computer to decipher them. Each model has different fabrication numbers. All Renault oval plate numbers are different eg - if it starts....

B = 5DR
C = 3DR
S = VAN
E = CABRIOLET
D = COUPE
K = ESTATE

and so on.......
