I have a Williams two that I have had garaged for about 8 or 9 years! I'm not particularly mechanically minded so wondered what might need replacing before getting it back to a road worthy condition. It went in mechanically sound and the body was decent. I'm sure that there are plenty of people that have brought back to life cars in a similar situation before so wondered if anyone has a list of things I would need to check over/replace! Thanks for your help!

Anything made out of rubber would be at the very top of my list of priorities to check or replace starting with the belts.

Next I'd be taking the brake calipers off to check that they're not seized up, clean, regrease then refit

After that a visual inspection of everything that's rubber to see what condition it's all in & go from there. As long as nothing is obviously perished or cracked, a decent soaking of WD40 should sort them out.

If it hasn't been run for that long, check that the enginge & box have plenty of oil in them, then disconnect the king lead from the distributor so it wont start and crank it on the key for 10 seconds or so to get the oil well circulated before firing it up.

The belts are by far the most important thing to sort 1st, once they're done & you're happy that there's nothing knackered on the car you just need to give it an italian tune up

Thanks for that! So I take it the tyres will be shot to bits then as well? What's the cost of getting the belts replaced these days?

I've not ever used this site to ask advice before but followed it for probably 13 ish years!

I wouldn't say shot but certainly past their best & potentially scary for a proper spirited drive. As for the cost of the belts I've got no idea tbh but I'm sure someone else on here will be able to give you an idea

Excluding materials (belts, tensioners, water pump) I've been quoted £302.50 + VAT.

in fact, the attached is pretty much everythibg you will need to do bar the PAS stuff.

Yes PAS is Power Assisted steering!

I'd change all liquids (engine / transmission oil, coolant, brake fluid, possibly PAS fluid too) and filters for peace of mind. It's not going to break the bank, but should freshen up the car and definitely won't hurt.
