I've got a ticking timebomb of a speedometer cable, and of course the cure for any untoward noise in a car is very simple: turn the stereo up.
But I was slightly embarrassed by the CD player a previous owner had installed, and could never find or if I did, afford, a proper Philips one. And if I did, I wouldn't really want one with the tape deck and associated limitations.
Then I stumbled across a 22DC679 (and they say romance is dead - what a lovely name) which is not far off period, has Renault on it, and has a 3.5mm jack for the purposes of inserting a headphone output for what was then an all the rage portable CD player, but now will just as easily take an input from an iPod or one of those new fangled telephone apparatus type things.
And I've discovered a use for all my crackly old tapes.
How has anyone else dealt with the problem of the knowledge that their original tape player is probably in a landfill site after failing to sell for ten pence on a car boot sale after sitting in the corner of a garage for ten years but is now worth a King's ransom?
