    Will keep everyone informed.
The car actually passed the MOT so no urgency as yet, unless the fumes start to enter the cabin

Only aimed at those looking for improved performance, I can be nice if it's a direct replacement for a knackered original one

    Hi
With the use of a stethoscope (length of hosepipe) I have located the leak to the join between the downpipe and the manifold pipes. So hope that a simple gasket replacement at that point will fix it and therefore new manifold exhaust might not be necessary after all. fingers crossed.
    will let you know.

it is a common fault for the 4 into 1 collector to crack and need welding.

As Northy said, its a common problem, either whip it off and fix it, or if you have the money, replace it with an aftermarket stainless set up. I replaced mine and the downpipe back in the day due to similar issues, I sourced mine used but it was difficult to find! Hopefully it can be welded easily and cheaply and you will be back on the go!

I use a SuperSprint one. My Williams one developed a small hole where all 4 go into 1, in the middle.

Vandella: Oreca Grp A exhausts are loud, yes, but the manifold is not a silencing part of the exhaust, so it won't change the tone that much unless you use a full Oreca system!

I have a full Oreca Grp A system here...better for power, not so good if you don't want to be hated by your neighbours and glared at each time you go near a Policeman.
