must admit im with danno - think a sprayed finish rather than brushed would have been my choice.
But its always nice to see something shiny pal.
Contemplated spraying but the block wasn't coming up good enough

The dipstick side hasn't faired so well I guess being the more weathered
It might be that now I have a hood base I could spray matt black on top
I wouldn't bother now mate.
But if you did try sand that back then spray the same stuff on.

Update time, not much shell still in stoarge, bought a parts washer and my neighbour has fully de-coked the head and relapped the valves in. New stem seals etc and assures me the head doesnt need a skim.
