    Engine rebuild

I'm getting the Williams reinsured and have sold the Megane due to lack of use - Williams is in great order, but would like to refresh the engine to get it perfect. I'm not the best with spanners and I only have a small garage - what are the best options?

Remove the engine yourself then take it to someone that builds engines

I rebuilt my F7R but had a good friend with me most of the time that's done it many times before. I'm mechanically minded but I wouldn't have taken on the task alone. It's pretty simple but you do need space and it can be messy. Good feeling tho when you fire the beast up for the first time knowing that you've just built it.

I can't do it myself. Who would people trust? I would like to put a 172 engine in, as I prefer their drive - may affect value though? Saying that, unlikely to sell, so does it matter?

172 engine would mean hassle with rev counter etc, why not get it rebored a little and fit high comp pistons. Should give it a bit more power without too much hassle, a good engine builder is money well spent and the bottom end is the same as a 1.9 clio diesel so shells and bearings are available.

Hopefully I haven't taken what you wrote out of context however if you prefer the engine in a 172 then I would suggest you buy a 172 and leave the williams for another day. Their as cheap as chips.

If your set on fixing the issue with the Williams then get some quotes and trust your instinct!
