    Exhaust Query

    Hi guys,

I'll try and get a picture ASAP to explain what I mean shortly. When I bought the car a year ago it had a stainless system centre box and back box (cat back) fitted. It wasn't for me, and there was a crack in the centre box so I've since replaced the whole exhaust front pipe to back box (excluding cat) with OEM or pattern parts. Since this was completed, when you look at the side of the car you can see the centre box pipe very prominently sticking out where it bends, that was never the case before.

I used a local garage who turned out to be cowboys and butchers to sort the exhaust, I think they may have ended up ordering the wrong centre section, it fitted, so they thought "f4ck it we will fit it". I've checked it and it's fitted solid enough, but it's also knocking somewhere which is driving me mad!

    thoughts?

the knocking will be as it comes over the rear beam.. put ur hand in when its not hot and ull feel it close or touching the rear beam.. as for the height of it.. it may be ur need to bend the support on the ubend bit, so it lifts it up higher or the rubber might be knackered..

All new rubbers mate. I've had a brief play with it and it's solidly fitted so adjustment will be neigh on impossible. I'm drifting towards it being the wrong centre section.

That joining piece looks like it needs undoing at each join so they're still attached but loose then smacking about with a rubber mallet & jacking up to adjust it.

It looks like it's correct but they always need persuasion to get them sat in the right place

Wat Paddy says..... plus check the hanger on the 135 degree bend sometimes they can be too tall and either bang upwards on the car hanger and need modified shortened, Deffo the bend is hanging down too low and needs turned so it is all in a straight line, ie same height. That is not an original Willy mid section looks like a valver one ? make sure it has a middle support.

Seem to remember Paddy was going to send me a pic of the hanger above the bend a squillion years ago when I was having similar trouble lol but was too busy building mental rally machine lol

A late update on this. I had the back box and U bend off altogether, modified the hanger on the joining U bend bit as it looked far too long, it's now sat a lot better. BUT and its a very big one, the exhaust is now banging so badly the cars almost undriveable! God knows! I'm going to get under it again today and have a look but I'm at the end of my tether with it!

Another update. I'm sick of trying to stop it banging and rattling, so I've bought a new renault one. The centre silencer Definately looks smaller and I know its a genuine renault job. If anyone wants the old one I'm going to eBay it. It's only done 800 miles on the car.
