    Increasing the octane rating

Ok so I think I might have pre-detonation, especially in hot weather, so rather than winding back the ignition timing on my ECU map I was thinking of just increasing the octane rating for the fuel.

Has anyone had much experience with meth injection or very high octane fuel additives?

    Thanks!

Alcohol in fuels can be a nightmare to fuel system components, with many parts now being specially designed to take bio-fuels (bio ethanol in petrol). The worst that will happen is your fuel lines could split, and fuel filter may. If you are increasing the octane rating successfully you will also be raising combustion temperature, I suppose you could run the risk of melting something - I would class this risk as low.

Are you sure its pre ignition and not knock also?

For the fuel pipes 10% meth in fuel is perfectly safe, 15-20% & it'll start to have a negative impact on the rubber hoses in the system
