    Whilst the engine is out, I should...

    ... do/change/add what?

    The engine is out at the garage and my mechanic has recommended replenishing some pipes and gaskets whilst it is out, as well as fitting a new clutch. What else do you recommend? I really need to find a Williams engine gasket set but can't seem to find one online

    Cheers

    Timing belt, water pump, tensioner, clutch kit, clutch pivot bush, check fuel hoses which run along side timing belt, hoses, oil n filter, oil pressure switch (give the terminal a good clean), front part of the subframe where radiator would be is usually rusty so look at it.
    Enjoy

    I've bought a timing belt kit (incl tensioners etc), and a clutch which are going in whilst the engine is out. I'm also considering:

    * Engine gasket set (cam cover/sump/rocker cover etc)
    * Oil pressure switch
    * ?

    Hey p4cks, my engine comes out at the end of sept.

    I think other things like oil level, coolant temp sensor are good places to go, maybe testing the lambda as well, i've got the dreaded clio idle problem right now so getting that down and sorted would be nice.

    Painting and a general clean up are also on the list too.

    There is a list on here, that is quite an indepth ground up rebuild of an engine which includes checking the ballance and wear of all items and having cylinder bores honed and what have you. I suppose if oil burning was a problem, maybe valve stem seals, having valves reseated and all that would be beneficial, maybe even piston rings.

    Just make double sure you get a new clutch fork pivot bush fitted, it's only £2 odd from RPD but will potentially make you feel suicidal if you don't do it & have clutch issues in the near future

    Ok thanks chaps. I've decided on;

    x sump gasket
    x crankshaft seal (timing end)
    x crankshaft seal (transmission end)
    x camshaft oil seal
    x power steering pipe
    x clutch pivot bush
    x oil pressure switch
    x coolant temp sensor
