    my geeky other project

as some of you who are facebook friends might have seen, i bought an old K6 red telephone box back in march to restore to its former glory, basically we got a good deal for £300 and we had a pick of hundreds. reason it was so cheap is because its my brothers place of works sister company, they had the contract of removing and upkeeping the boxes a few years ago. and they were slowly but surely selling of the 100's they had at there yard, apparently around the same time we got ours, some ex-pat from australia bought 48 boxes @ £1,000 a piece, and they were shipped out in containers.

the box arrived on a saturday via crane and on a pallet, in case you dont know, these boxes weigh 3/4 of a ton, as you would expect with being cast iron.

we rolled the box using wooden stakes to get it into the garden, the pallet collapsed in the end and it was such a nightmare sorting it out.

even with 8 of us we could not right the thing! yopu could not adjust your arms when it was halfway up due to being to heavy! so in the end my brother as seen in the pic got hold of a trailer from here work that was especially built to lift and upright these boxes

have 90% completed now, just a few bits of touching up to do, have now piped electric, phoneline and sky coax into the box. also have the light running from a remote control plug socket :0)

people do say why are you bothering??? but its an investment and makes a brilliant feature to the garden.

yes ive heard and seen pictures of that done. but you would only be able to have it as an outdoor shower really, cos there is no way you would get one of them indoors(you can take them apart if you can get the rusted bolts out). and also have to stregthen the floor if upstairs.
