I didn't say it was worth £5k though. The 'price' of something is not necessarily the 'value' and that is always going to be the case with Willys. I was merely mooting that I wouldn't spend any more than £5k on one.

It's easy to get rose-tinted about these cars, but they will never ever be 'worth' five, six, ten or fifteen grand as they just aren't special enough. What someone pays for theirs, is what they are willing to pay.

But, I agree, forum debate is good and it is good to read everyone's opinions on these cars.

Firstly, if you take what the OP's opening line was it doesnt make sense.
What exactly is a concours project? A car in concours condition is a project for what exactly? For show? Thats not a project really is it.

Secondly, in reality a second hand car is only worth either
(a)what someone is willing to pay for it
    OR
(b)the sum of it's parts to a breakers.

Looking at option b we know for a fact that a breakers is going to pay anything between £600 and £1000 for a Williams for the sum of its parts. In my view it does not matter if you have spent 10 grand replacing parts on it or it has 10K on the clock. They dont give a hoot.
At option A we know that an enthusiast or maybe collector (and there is a distinct difference between the two) will pay asking price if he really wants the car. Your average joe soap will laugh in your face if you said to him you wanted 6 to 10 grand for a Williams.
It has many different values to many different people. Therefore, debating the price of a Williams is pointless.

For me there is no monetary value to mine. It's special to me, for the places it's brought me and the time I've spent repairing it, and the people I've met along the way, the memories in other words. I would not swap it for all the williams left on the planet.

    It is a special car!

I know what you mean really though, I got asked by a bloke outside the chinky tonight ' was that a real williams? ' and another guy says you've had that car for years! never met either of them before. Turned out one guy has a 172 and knows of sideways danny. Small world, but Willys are little legends aint they ! :D

Was hoping to visit Cork next month Fab, (sorry for thread hijack) to help bring a pilot cutter back to its home in Falmouth but trips been cancelled never been to the south, drove Kirkistoun with the formula E car, once upon a time.

    Wow!! started something here.

Thanks for all your replies, most of them have been helpful.

Good point about why is this a project, basically i bought one of these brand new and couldn't afford to run it so had to sell it and this is my special car i'd owned and always promised myself I'd have again, so in short I really want as close to the car i used to have. Also, theres a huge difference between clean and concours and a huge amount of work. i have had two cars featured in magazines in the past from other marques and have done bare metal restorations, however this is enough of a "project" for me now.

With regards to the comment about being a "newb and not having a clue and it f**king you off tbh" I think you should have a serious think about what kind of message that sends out to prospective williams owners and potential forum/club members. In the last two months I have bought a Porsche Cayenne as my daily driver and a Lamborghini gallardo, and I didn't have a clue about either of these cars really as i'd never owned them. However after speaking to some extremely helpful forum members I was able to make an informed decision on both cars, and have now joined a super car club i didn't know existed, again due to a helpful forum member.

With regards to the price, I think the question I really should have asked was "clio williams 3 13k on the clock how rare?" i think then that would have given me more of an idea whether I want to spend 10k on this car.

Once again, thank you very much for all your helpful comments,

    Anthony.

Any car that was made in the early / mid nineties on sub 50,000 miles is rare in today's market place. 13,000 miles is as close as it comes to owning a new car in my books.

The lower the mileage, the rarer the car, the more it's worth.

I bet there is only a hand full of Williams on here that are within that group!

That's some car collection to have In your garage!!!

This Williams 3 was advertised for sale a long time ago now. Have you had a viewing of the car yet as that advert isn't the greatest

I would pay £6k tops for it. I think the days of saying a 1 is worth more to a collector than a 3 are diminishing, due to low numbers left.

Thanks for that, I'm going to arrange hopefully to se it this week. to be honest I don't mind paying a premium for it if it's the right one for me, I can't see me selling it unless i need to.

i am very lucky to be able to buy these cars at the moment, but it's a funny thing i stopped to fill the lambo up the other day next to a lad with a very clean mk 2 escort rs turbo. He came out as i was looking at his car we had a brief chat about it and I said what a lovely car i thought it was. he then realised that the lambo was mine and said "I can't believe you'd even look at mine" but it was every bit as nice as the lambo in my opinion, maybe not as "flash" but just a really nice car. it made me think that if you love cars I think you love them, if you see what I mean? We all have favourites but a nice car is a nice car and respect from me to anyone who loves there pride and joy, whatever it is.

Just read that back and I sound a bit like a pompous grandad, but I hope you see what I'm saying.

    Anthony.
