Oil Pressure Guage doesn't work when cold?

My oil pressure guage doesn't appear to work until the temp has built up - of which the guage appears to come into life and shows a reading.

The pressure doesn't appear to be too low - it seems ok.

I'm not really worried, just wondering what people have to say.

    Cheers,

    Jamie.

Have you got long arms and can see through metal Jamie?

There's a sender at the back of the block on the drivers side that may need to be sprayed with a bit of the auld wd40. You should be able to reach it from under the arch if the lining is off or otherwise from up top reach down and wiggle the connector. It's to the left of the starter motor.
Failing that could be an earth issue.

I'm not sure, I'll have to check the paper work - but I think it's 10 or 15 W 40. It won't be thicker than that. I think the oil is pretty new as when I looked at the car it was very light in colour, not dark.

the oil pressure reading is done through a tiny hole on the sensor behind the block , chances are if the hole is blocked with some crap it might be allowing the oil to enter only once its warmed up (thinned)

Giving it a spirited drive might help budge it

I use dto just poke a stick through the gaps in exhaust manifold and poke the spade connector a little and it started working again usually.
