    MWM Sport 172 - 258bhp graph

Thought a few of you might be interested in this graph of the Michael Woodford Motorsport clio 172 turbo, which me and Mike from MWM have been mapping together as its on an ECU (mtech v4) that I'm very familiar with where as they were predominately Omex specialists before this conversion.

Standard bottom end still, shows how much potential these awesome little engines have

Not sure if we are going to exploit its potential to make some more or not at a later date, 260bhp was the target Mike had when designing the conversion so I think he is going to be happy to leave it there, but its a shame really as there was blatantly still loads more to come from mapping it with a little more boost and a little less safety margin if he would have let me!

Car feels absolutely fantastic at that power though I must say, totally effortless power delivery, just feels quick but without feeling like its trying, bit like a focus RS or similar. Just feels like that is how it should have come from the factory.

I wouldnt want to warranty the gearbox though, lol

Yeah they had nothing but problems with the first one which was a secondhand unit, Mike and Jack were all for ripping it off and fitting an Omex instead which they prefer, but as I've been running Mtech faultlessly for years on my clio and thats what it was already running on Mike decided to give it another go.

I think if he offers the conversion commercially though he'll probably just let people choose whichever they prefer out of the two or any other ECU they want to use for that matter.
It seems to be quite an emotive subject picking an ECU (some people support a particular model like they are following a football team, LOL) which makes no sense to me as a mapper as for the last decade or so I have mapped reguarly on at least half a dozen totally different types of aftermarket ECU, and have probably used another dozen less reguarly and they are all broadly the same as they are just slightly different variations on copies of a 1980s Cossie ECU anyway, lol

Even just on my own cars I have on mappable at the moment for example I have one on Mtech, one on Autronic, one on a modified Saab ecu that is mappable, one on Megasquirt, one on RP Labs L8, and I really dont care greatly which im using, I suppose if I had to name a favourite it would be the Autronic, and of the cars I map for other people Omex is certainly a popular option, but they are all generally capable of the same things.

Interesting use of readily available standard parts to build a low comp engine I reckon.

Good to see companies trying stuff thats a bit different from just yet another overpriced ITB conversion that only gives 30bhp or even the RS2 which gives slghtly less again (although I quite like on a road phase 2 as it keeps the cruise control etc).

100bhp extra is a hell of a difference, it totally transforms the car, and yet it still has all the creature comforts.
Should work on a phase 2 as well without needing to get rid of the cruise and electronic throttle etc too hopefully

    Looks like a smooth delivery.
Yeah it just feels like a standard car still when you put your foot down really, just a much quicker standard car than a 172 of course, lol
