    steering issues

Ive done a lot of work on the Williams 2 over the past year or so and now its time to sort out the play in the Steering column.

I have read on this site that most of you weld the knuckle to stop the movement - but unfortunately l have been unable to get anyone to do this as they all say the same thing there insurance will not cover it.

so I need some other ideas.... getting a new one at £450 is not an option. does anyone know if the same year 1.8 16v steering column would fit?

any ideas would be very welcome.

    Andrew :(

Tell them its part of an art project for college, and that you will sign a disclaimer to state it will never be used on a vehicle.
    They'll weld it then

im 36 so I don't think the 'art project ' line would work.

I don't know anyone with a welder Mmmmm maybe its time I took a welding course and did it myself!

If anyone on here is scrapping a Williams I would be happy to buy the steering column…. anyone

I thought art student would work fine at 36, loads of middle aged wasters doing art degrees, lol

Where abouts are you from? maybe a local member can lend you a welder or give you a hand.

Column is in and has transformed the handling! there wasn't mush play in the old one but it made a big difference in the way the car felt.

Can't wait now for a few dry days so I can take her out for a dam good thrashing!

Cheers MatBrown - some photos below off my mechanic hard at work fitting the new column. It only took him 20 minutes.
