When the gearbox was in the car, 3rd gear was sometimes a bit tricky to find i.e. sometimes it would crunch and I'd have to re-dip the clutch and try again. I'm not a hard driver and this would happen even if I wasn't rushing through the gears. It only happened in 3rd and no other gears. Do you think it would have been cured with adjusting the gear linkage or might there be something more sinister at work?
I just don't want to put the gearbox back in thinking that it'll all be fine after a linkage adjustment and then have to take the damn thing out again if it's not.
It's a low mileage gearbox (50K) but I've read in a few places the gearbox can be the weakest link in these cars :(
What do you think I should do? - refit or replace?
