    rear calipers

ok i am having problems with mine at the moment and
    mot man says NO

basicly the rearn braking efficeny is not up to mot standard even
though i have no problems with them including the handbrake efficency.
now i have removed , pads and discs in order to inspect calipers
properly ,the rubber seals were not looking to clever took them out to
check picton movement , it was difficult but pulled them out and wd40 ed
them as i worked them in and out . put everything back on even though
it did help bring the efficeny up it still is not enough for mr MOT .

my bias valve is not seized either so the only problem i can think of
is the air in calipers which needs to be bled . however i snapped one
of the bleed nipples and dont want to go any further without a proper plan .

    here are the questions ;
1- has anyone heard of/managed to bleed rear calipers through union nut by simply slackening the nut instead of the bleed nipple ?

2- the nipple is snapped flush wit hthe caliper casing .what are my chances
of getting it out without damaging threads or getting crap into the caliper?

Q1, it can be done through union not sure if will be 100% efficient

Q2 Some people will braze a nut onto belled nipple to make it easier to turn that in conjunction with oxy/acetylene (sp) might work, a good soak with a better than wd40 fluid like ferrorosol (built-hamber) or similar might free it up enough to be able to wind a screw extractor in but if it snaps they are practiacally undrillable. You could drill it out making sure your drill bit is smaller than the diameter of the hole that way the threads should clean up easily with a scrape out or a retap, make sure all drill particles are removed.

    Might inspire might not

thanks guys but i am not going to be buying new or used calipers to
replace them at the moment .
thinking about it today ,i have a nice theory ; calipers are made of
ally ,bleed nipple is steel . i will try to build up some welds over the
remains of the nipple on the caliper , weld wont stick to ally but will melt and stick to the nipple if i can build it high and strong enough ,i can weld a nut
on the end of it and unscrew the fooker out (IN THEORY )
obviously heat from wleding process will help loosen the threads but too much of it can burn the brake fluid . planning to cool the welds with compressed air as i go along .

    hi mate

took them to ETB on cardiff road as my mate takes all his cars there .
but there is new mot tester there at the moment he is a complete CNUT !!!

i took a 2001 clio 1.2 down there for the test , he came up with 8 items on it .
fixed all took it back for retest and failed . it failed on front discs and pads which were not even mentioned on the actual mot failure sheet !!
the car has only been to garage down the docs since the mot .
i had to buy new discs and pads to get it passed .

calipers are the same as clio ones .
are the nipples free on them calipers ?
i have not got a print out but i have seen the rear braking figures on the screen . like i said even though the car stops perfectly fine and handbrake holds it nicely . he wont pass it untill he gets the figures he is after . TOTAL CNUT !!

ok brake efficency at the front calipers are around 300kgf
where as the rears have arounf 60-70 kgf a side .

mot guy says he would expect at least 120 kgf a side to pass .
i forgot to ask him this but do mot testers work with expectations or
is there a document that states what figures are needed for each type /model of car ??
