    getting more ponies out of the old girl

    Hi,

    after going to fcs its got me in the mood to get a few more ponies out of the old girl, i was thinking of taking the head to ktec to get the head ported and polished. has anyone had any bad experience with ktec doing head work? is there any other companys in the south you would recommend?

    How much do you want to spend Mat?

    Have to throw a bit of money at it to notice much difference.

    Cams and a map maybe a good shout.

    For the price and hassle (removing head, no car for weeks) a port and polish isn't worthwhile by itself.

    How much power you want really depends on how much you want to spend. Here's a list with some very approximate prices and bhp figures.

    Performance chip, around £30+, Not much power increase, but smoother drive and a nicer rev limiter

    'Live' remap, £300+ from most tuners, 6-10bhp

    Cams plus remap, 15-20bhp

    Throttle bodies, 200-230bhp (maybe more, not sure what the highest recorded bhp is for a Willy)

    Turbo, 200bhp-until you run out of money!!

    i was thinking, ported and polished, cams and group a scuttle induction kit. im hoping that would give about 190bhp, my limit to spend on everything is £2000. i only use the car for weekends so i dont mind it sitting there for a few weeks whilst everything is getting done.

    thats basically it and my car put out 167, 166,166.8, 167.3 over 4 runs

    maybe a remap will giveme 170... but wouldnt go expecting 190...

    JayS runs a very similar setup, wilder cams and a supersprint manifold, and a live remap... he is pushing out 180bhp

    Jay also runs an APD head aswell i recall!

    F7R , the first priority is to get another Dyno done, when at fcs I put it on the rolling road, the result was 184.8 bhp, I was shocked and surprised and had no confidence with that result, I think I will take it to ktec.

    Do you think ktec will be a good place to take it for headwork? And how much should it cost? I don’t want to be ripped off.

    im not going to bother with the head work, didn’t realise you get so little gains and it costs so much.

    im going to ktec next week for a power run, after that i will speak to Andy about my options.
