    Can anyone tell if that's a willy downpipe or a valver one?

    The gearbox casing looks to have been repaired at some stage. See the grey moulded putty looking stuff in your piccy? A big failure could cause the casing to shatter. Odd way of repairing a 'box casing...I'd replace it. It says JC3 on the tag. If it IS a JC3, get it rebuilt if you want and a new casing.

    The 'black squishy thing' is simply the rubber gaiter. Under there is a tiny bar and a bolt and the end of the gear linkage.

    I wonder if the gears popping out could be a bent selector link? Looking at the 'box I doubt it though :(

    Hmm, I am no gearbox man, but am I right in thinking this is the housing area for the diff thats looking fubar?

    The blue dot on the dipstick indicates a 1.8 engine, white dot is for a 16v.
    Wobba, thats a 16v downpipe, it has two branches, willy is 4-1.

    Woah woah, are you suggesting this is a 1.8 isn't it possible the guy.just used a 16 dip stick? I'm guna be pretty angry if this isn't a Willy engine.

    Yes it is possible, but so far i have seen nothing that looks from a williams.
