    Exterior plastics colour matching

    Ok i dediced to repaint my scuttle panel while its off. I know most people re-do theirs black but i want the original colour which is a dark grey.

    I also understand that Coops wants to do the same with the williams which has been done black. So you might want to read this coops because im having trouble finding the colour.

    First of all stripped down the panel, cleaned and prepped with silicone remover. Then a light coat of plastic primer.

    I used 'Halfords bumper paint -DARK GREY'

    to this result after 3 coats to make sure the colour was right, it wasnt...

    This is clearly not dark grey and no where near the original colour.

    So i returned the tin to halfords and they had nothing else which was darker, i swapped it for the nearest thing i could find and that happened to be 'Rover tempest grey' which then turned out to be the same as the other

    I also bought a tin of matt black as a last resort. If i cant find a colour to match then ill use matt black.

    Any advise?

    black is the way forward. Trying to achieve the origional greyish/faded look with new paint isn't worth it.

    try heat gunning an unmolested one mate, thats what the dub boys do and supposedly takes the plastic back to out the factory colour. just dont melt it!!

    i rocked satin black on the turbo in the end, looks fine.

    thats exactly what you should do, just takes time to do, then add some trim gel etc and usually gives a great result

    if you are going to colour plastics in a non pikey way ;

    the best thing to do is to use plastic dye which will not peel
    or crack over time as it does sip in to the pores of plastic to dye
    it rather than coating
