Gripper Diff official WC & CS group buy thread

    RIGHT!

So soon after the AST top mount group buy comes another fine money saving offer from the Wobba!

In conjunction with Cliosport and Gripper Differentials Ltd comes an offer I know many of you are interested in, especially you hard track day peeps who are fed up of your inside wheel spinning up under power on those pesky tight bends or losing grip in the rain and recent snow

Some of you may have some questions, but before I go into that I'd like to state the cost, as this will be the main prohibiting factor with many of you.

    • Diff: £605
OE Crown wheel work & fitting: £150
Special bolt on crown wheel kit with a choice of ratios 14/60, 13/59 or 12/63: £430.00
Friction welded (-10mm, Guaranteed unbreakable) driveshaft: £30
      Fitting to gearbox: £185

The above DOES NOT INCLUDE 17.5% VAT

So, for me this will cost a basic outlay of £887.13 Inc VAT not including delivery. Personally my diff will get fitted elsewhere, but I want Gripper to modify the Crown Wheel as it will minimise problems with liability should it go wrong.

I won't go into major technical details, or attempt to use fancy words to market this group buy as it really is for people who know what they want already and it is a fairly hardcore spec conversion. If you are interested but don't know that much you can look at my newbie thread HERE or google for info.

The crown wheel mod that needs to be done (unless you are a truly loopy individual and buy a bolt on crown wheel to allow you to easily change gear ratios!) to fit the diff. The suppliers are not the only specialists that could do this mod but I would advise it. The turnaround for the work needed is 24-48 hours.

The driveshaft work may not be necessary, and it may be possible to run a valver passenger shaft instead. However, the new sits to the left more in the gearbox housing and for a Williams (with widetrack) will likely need 10mm of shaft to be removed. This is done using friction welding, and is guaranteed by them to never break. Turnaround for this job is 24 hours.

The reason we are doing this with Cliosport is because I was informed they are also putting forward a group buy at about the same time, so it makes sense to join forces.

Normally, the diff itself is £650 plus VAT not £605. It's possible we could get a slightly better discount, I will keep you posted.

Probably going to order my diff soon, £605 plus VAT by itself.

Will get the rest of the work done in a couple of months probably.

Count me in please Wobba. I tried to locate stand E666 where Gripper apparently were at the Autosport show so I could have a good chat with them about the group buy but to no avail. Thinking about it now perhaps they only turned up on the trade days on Thurs/Friday?

If I went for the bolt on crown wheel how easy is it to actually change to the different ratios? Do the diffs have to come off the car to do it? I presume each of the different ratios then have to be bought separately - any idea how much each of those are?

If you could get a better price still on the one above Wobba im in

The prices you'v got are trade prices which he was offering at the show like Evogone was saying in a previous thread

He was also saying they are developing a dogbox (the last gear was being machiined on the friday) and even mentioned a 6th gear so be worth keeping an eye on if your in the market for a competion box

Stevie_b you will need to strip the box down to change the ratios the crown wheel needs changing along with the pinion

    Cheers Richard.

Wobba - stick me down for the OE CW/P mod as well then please - although it will be used in competition I know I won't often get the time to be stripping it to swap the ratios so may as well go with the OE and cheaper option

Stevie, I'll put you down over on the CS gb thread. Bet to ask others about ratios and swapping cogs etc as that's too specialist for me I am afraid! The rally guys can help A couple of the CS buyers have rally cars as well. OE CW for now though right?

Twincam, yea I realise the prices could be lower but right now it's kinda out of my hands with that as the CS people are mainly handling it. I'll keep asking though!

    6 speed 'box? Ooooh hehe!

Although you have the option to chop and change ratios, the main reason is to gear down the orginal ratios

The current gear set is very good for things like cruising down the motorway but when competing (dependent on the event or tracks) you'l never top out in 5th gear (unless you race on long motorways or have massive HP)

Best thing to do is see what your max hp is at what revs and what your rev limit is set to then you work out what speeds you'l hit with the different ratios

The car im building is going to be mainly used on tarmac stage events and the odd track day. So il doubt il need it to exceed 120mph and so il get the right ratio to suit

I wont then bother changing it until I can stretch to a dog box

Add me to the list then Wobba, might as well see with a few more people it might get the price down abit more
