    Hey there
just a note to say hi
am the proud new owner of a williams3 which i bought at the weekend - have only done around 350 miles so far but am starting to put together a small list of upgrates!
The car is in immaculate condition but is 15 years and 100k miles old so i expect to find a few things to do..

Firstly change the headlight bulbs - have read a couple of threads on this forum and also autoexpress do a review of lamps every year - their winner for the past few years has been the philips extreme power. Can anyone advise whether i need H4 or H7 for the clio?

Secondly there is a bit of driveline shunt when coming on and off the throttle (and gearstick movement) - is this likely to be gearbox/engine mounts?

Lastly (for now!) the clutch, cable and pedal are new, but when letting the clutch back in its not completely smooth - hard to describe, not a judder exactly, just not smooth - can the cable stick a little?

Oh, nearly forgot - are there any independant / specialist garages in the north east?

    Thanks for any advice!

hi m8 welcome to the madhouse

H4 bulbs std fitment. movement in gear lever usually down to engine mounts common problem can be improved by replacing engine mounts i found replacing dogbone mount and adding the extra 4th mount does made a big difference, also available is a solid jointed link to replace the dogbone works well but not sure about long term problems apart from increased vibration coops is the man to talk to

    http://www.williamsclio.co.uk/forum/...ic.php?t=15495

clutch issue could be clutch on its way out/ faulty release bearing if clutch cable is new and clutch pedal has been replaced unlikely to be a problem there unless non genuine cable was used they dont seem upto the job but again some people have have probs some dont bit of a lottery

Do you know if the clutch arm pivot bush was replaced when the clutch was done?

I didn't replace it when I had my clutch done earlier this year, had a very similar issue as you're describing and eventually wore away even more & about killed my gearbox but it was on it's way anyway & I abused it something rotten

Thanks for your responses, will be ordering the lamps tonight, and maybe find someone local to do the engine mounts as i don't have the facilties.

I've got the invoice at home for the clutch replacement so will take a look at what was done. Best way i can describe it is a vibration when pulling away from standstill as i'm coming off the pedal
    thanks again

engine mounts are a piece of piss to do yourself, so easy that I'd only pay someone else to do them if they charged 50p & a kit kat

you don't need a hoist then?
Also, presuming its cheaper to order from a specialist on line than going into a dealer?

No hoist needed just a jack & a block of wood to take the weight when doing the mounts inside the engine bay, and the dogbone mount underneath you just need something to lever the engine enough so you can slip the bolt in.

There's quite a few options available for the mounts, k-tec do a lovely pair of almost solid engine mounts but they're ridiculously expensive, I'd say go to GSF if you want normal mounts, much cheaper than renault & just as good.
As for the dogbone mount - the most common one to be broken - there's quite a few more options..........normal bog standard, plenty of excellent nick 2nd hand ones about (even I've got a nearly new 1 for sale ), you can also uprate that mount by pressing the bush out & rotating it by 90 degree's or you could buy a polyeurathane bush kit for the mount - very good design but mixed reviews about them, not had good experience with it myself but others have been fine

Then there is the hardcore coops solid mount brilliant bit of kit but not for the faint hearted, not very nice if the car is your daily drive and will put a lot more strain on the other mounts

On yours, the 1st mount I'd replace would be the dogbone, usually the cause of gearstick movement when it's worn or broken and very easy to do yourself

    Thanks, what are they called?
Am near Newcastle, but Northallerton's not that far - was thinking of renewing the suspension early next year and don't have the tools (or a warm dry space!) to do it myself.

ask about locally mates etc see if you can find someone that gets good recommendations go see them ask if they will give you names of people who u can contact and see what they say stay away from the usually idiots like tyre and exhaust centres (kwikfit, halfords) and main dealers especially renault lol
